In Win7, I imported png images to act as folder pictures for my personal files. I cannot do this in Win8. Right click the folder, select properties/customize, then down to "folder pictures" and click choose file. I should be able to open my library of png images and select an image to use as an icon for that folder. But nothing happens. I still have the picture of a partially open file. I could move down to "folder icons" then select "change icon" (which is what I would rather do anyway) but that only allows me to select an image from Windows library of ridiculous icons. It will not accept png files when I use "browse". Maybe if I could change the png file to an "icon file", Win8 would accept it but I don't know how or if it is even possible.
