    Nested Menu?

I'm looking for a way to make Windows 8 more usable.

I'm used to the traditional Windows desktop (actually the Win 98 classic view in Win XP - maybe I'm a Luddite) where the Start menu items are nested (or a tree structure). e.g. MS Office installs one start menu item called MS Office. Sub menus offer the choice of Word, Excel, etc)

The Win 8 Start page installs every item as a separate tile often without a good description. e.g. I have a couple of programs that have installed a tile called "Read Me" with no indication of what program they belong.

Even the Desktop offers no way to nest a menu.

I have an exceptionally large number of programs that I need to install. I know that once installed, the Start page will be an impossible mess.

Does anyone know of a way to create a Start screen tile or Desktop icon that, when clicked, will open a sub menu of choices? Then I can place all related links in that sub menu.

    Hello DSS,

You might see if either option below may work for you for this.

Start Menu - Restore in Windows 8

    OR

Start Menu Toolbar - Create on Windows 8 Taskbar

    Hope this helps,

You may like this launcher. I've tried several of these and like this one best. It does take a while to learn the program ,but once you do, I think you will like it. It puts an icon in the system tray which you click on to bring up the list.

    Thank-you

    Thank-you for your replies,

I'll put these recommended programs in my back pocket and I am 95% sure that I will use one of them.

Maybe I'm a masochist but I really would like to try to get used to the standard Win 8 interface and was wondering if there was any standard way to "nest" menus. It doesn't look like there is.

I'll give Win 8 a couple of weeks (trying to create a better way). If this fails, I'll try the suggestions.

    Thanks again!

Yes. Sorry I used the wrong term. Cascading is what I'm looking for.

I've looked at the suggested solutions and so far, it looks like Classic Shell will give me what I want.
