    Help with boot logo

    Hi,

I bought a machine with windows 8 installed on it from hp. After putting in my details, I noticed that the boot logo shows the hp logo

I've looked at youtube videos on windows 8 booting and they show the windows 8 logo.

Is there a way to change it back to the windows 8 logo or am I stuck with it?

    Al

Here's some information I found on the topic:

WESNEXT TechWire Visual Boot Experience (BCD) Settings

This tells me you might be able to block parts of it, but changing it might not be possible. It's controlled by the UEFI firmware.

My 8 year old cousin got Toshiba logo, and it's awful!
It makes the bootscreen not Windows 8-style

Hello, I have just registered with the forum to help you with this. Turns out the boot logo resides in (C://Windows/Boot/Resources) you WILL NEED to take ownership of the Resources folder in order to make changes (or in this case RENAME your existing bootres.dll to hpbootres.dll then drop and paste the new bootres.dll), after that you can reboot and you should boot with the new Windows 8 logo. If you are ready to do this I can send you the file you need if you would be so kind to SEND ME the file with the HP logo (hpbootres.dll or before you rename it bootres.dll, as previously explained) . Let me know, for I want the same as you but with the HP logo instead.

The Toshiba logo SUCKS, I agree! But I don't know if a UEFI based PC can allow that change, as that's flashed into the UEFI BIOS firmware chip. Not sure if that can be overrided within Windows. I know if you use BIOS over EUFI, it's possible.

I wonder how the Toshiba boot logo looks like.
The hp logo is not that bad at all... still native colors; I always thought it was hidden in WinRE partition but guess I was wrong.

    @amoled
    Thanks for the info!

That system resembles mine a lot, also HP.

To confirm: the bootres.dll is indeed different from the RTM disk one but I'll test this in A VM first, if I'll give it a try, since I don't like taking ownership of system files.

Toshiba's logo doesn't really strike me as leading innovation... It doesn't look very nice at all for a boot screen, a simple TOSHIBA in red would had been a tad better.

It's bigger than I thought. At least it has some red on it so you can keep it.

Hello aar407 As I had a chance to get a hold of a HP boot file from a different source other than yours I was able to try switching the HP bootres.dll with mine and IMO it didn't work (it did boot but without a logo) as I had more time to review on the subject this is what I found and what I MADE of everything I've read so far:

The newer machines have an architecture (UEFI) that boots differently from the older model motherboards (CSM) this is done ON PURPOSE so if any corruption takes place on the system files the BOOT does not get compromised and the system boots normally, therefore the boot takes place on the motherboards firmware directly from hardware and it is OEM dependant. While the older motherboards use the typical CSM boot relying on the system files .

I am not sure as of WHY on the UEFI models there is a bootres.dll that DOES NOT contain the OEM logo and instead have the w8 logo since it is not being used.
Here I am attaching a bootres.dll that contains the w8 logo HOWEVER if your computer comes with windows 8 installed and it boots with an OEM logo (hp in your case) I think it wont make any difference if you switch the file or not.

    **IMPORTANT**
If windows 8 is INSTALLED using UEFI mode the OEM logo will show up, if it is installed in a machine UEFI capable but instead the user does it via CSM it will PROBABLY use the bootres.dll that resides in Windows/Boot/Resources ..

Also I did a whole lot of reading on decompiling the bootres.dll and although I was able to extract the folder that contains the boot logo BMPs on either files (HP bootres.dll and a non UEFI system) BOTH LOGOS WERE the ones with w8.
As for being able to HACK the bootres.dll I called it quits by the time I realized I needed more knowledge on the subject to recompile the bootres.dll with CHANGED logos (there are certificates signed on the file that prevents tampering with it).

I am sure and look forward that someone with knowledge on the subject (decompressing .dll and extracting the .wim modifying it and recompiling the .dll with the correct certificate and the whole nine yards) will come forward and take this as his personal challenge for there is no bigger challenge than to do something no one has yet accomplished (specially in these times of globalization and fast communications) .

Greetings to everyone and hope I didnt bore you all too much with this

(Attached is the bootres.txt rename it to bootres.dll it would not let me upload it as a .dll)
If you use 7zip you can extract directly the contents and you can see for yourself what I mean for BOTH my file and your .dll
