    Pretty simple and should work.

Renaming them without spaces like: tr2empty.ico and tr2full.ico would be better for this I think.
    Thanks.
    Already renamed them to Full.ico & Empty.ico

    Still won't work.

    Medab,

What you have is fine, but you should have the (default) value set to use the Empty.ico instead since the default icon for the Recycle Bin is empty as well. That may sort this for you.

    Good news Medab!

    I've got it working.
It seems Windows doesn't refresh by directly loading from the ICO files.
Instead you need to place the ICO's in a dll and load them from there. Just to mimic the imageres.dll original way of getting ico resources.

So I've made a small 64bit dll with mingw64 (works with Visual Studio also).
Couldn't find an empty one around here.

    I've made this:
    Building Windows DLLs with MinGW
Small a + b function in C. Nothing fancy. Just wanted something to test this.

Then I placed the ICO's there as resources with CFF Explorer.

And yes, loading the ICO's from the dll seems to refresh correctly here on my pc!

So you'll need a (empty) dll to add icons to it.

    I'm in over my head.
Could you send me a copy of the dll you made?
I could add it to system 32 & try it out.

I would be very grateful if you would.
    Thank you.

You could make a tutorial to add to the tutorials section.
In my searches I found LOTS of people with the same problem.

    Glad you got it working!
That registry discovery is a good one.

Sorry for the dll. I could't attach it.
It was just an example to point out that it works. Wasn't complete (just recycle bin). You'll need a better one with all your needed icons.
Or do it with the registry since you got that working.

To attach unattachable files, put them in a folder & ZIP it.
The ZIP file SHOULD be attachable.
