Aero (almost) found in Windows 8

Anyone hoping for this in 2013?
It was back in September, and also it is in Chinese and needed a bit of translation, but it doesn't look as if it is happening.

It appears that Aero Glass was dropped to save battery life in tablets, phones etc. Whoopee, couldn't they at least have turned it off by default in that case and just left it in as an optional theme?

I've tried the various solutions to be found online and none of them are really the answer.

The more I realise what Windows 8 is missing as options, the more I get so mad at Microsoft. Their new evangelism is anti-desktop PC users it would seem.

The rot started setting in with Windows 7 so I suppose we should have seen it coming.

Now if anyone can find how to adapt Aero directly from Windows 7 or Vista, that will be an achievement worth noting.

I've subscribed to that thread at MSFN. I'll wait for further developments. Thanks.

The absence of the full Aero experience on Windows 8 is my major gripe with it.

Not the new interface, not the BS that it's unusable with a mouse, not the loss of the Start orb/menu, not
even UEFI (don't have it, or want it) or the push to the cloud and subscription-software. All of these I either
worked around, or (in the case of the cloud/subscriptions) actively avoid using.

But this laptop is NOT a tablet. It's an i7 quad-core, with all the bells and whistles, and which has a very
respectable 6-7 hour battery limit. So miniscule 'performance hits' or 'improved battery life' are simply not
    an issue.

Despite its perceived 'failings' Vista was one of the best LOOKING OSes ever, because of Aero.

So, I want my Aero back. In full. Those who don't can always turn it off.

    Wenda.

I totally agree regarding Vista. I still use it as my main OS.

The difficulty with transparency was battery life.

Using it on a desktop and not on tablet means tablets get a 2nd class experience.

MS can't have that, so they removed it entirely.

It could be optional - but that gets messy - tablet users might use it , but there is a trade off.

Easier just to get rid of it - and give all users a degraded experience.

I don't think it is coming back. It isn't a dealbreaker.

The real dealbreaker is forcing the phone interface on desktop users.

    That is costing MS.

They can probably get away with it.

They are in a postition of monopoly power. They can afford poor sales as they push the users in the direction they want.

They will have considered the possibility of any competition appearing. They must have decided it isn't likely.

    They are probably right.

Uncle Tim could put out a small mac at an affordable price - that would give MS a real fright.

It would force them to consider their existing user base.

    Therein lies the problem.

Tim has other fish to fry - and he knows MS would respond by quickly releasing an OS that doesn't repel the customers.

Since Microsoft are going to put in a new UI "Wind" in the next version of Windows, will they keep the Aero UI used in Windows Vista/7. Because what if I get disappointed with the new UI? I might want Aero as an alternative. But, must wait and find out. :p
