Hello Franz, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to change the icon of a drive. It's for Windows 7, but is the same in Windows 8.

    No Go

I tried option three [HKCU/SW/Classes/Apps] in order to change my drive icons but it seemed to work only on drives C and D which are operating systems (C on ssd and D on a conventional Drive) while any attempt to perform the exact procedure for drives E, F, G, H, will get no response.
I wonder what the reason could be... I'd be grateful for a solid solution.

Hello Doren, and welcome to Eight Forums.

How does Option One work instead?

    Hi Brink
In windows 7 I used to set my icons according to Option 1 - and it worked flawlessly.
Under windows 8 the ini file and corresponding icon seem to be totally ignored.
I'm beginning to suspect that my Windows 8 is corrupt somehow?! it refuses to install Office 365...
Perhaps a reinstall will solve the issue?

    Now it's working
While struggling with the issue of changing the drive-icons [Option 2] I decided to try Option 1 once again. Since it did not work the way it did on Windows-7, it occurred to me to make a slight configuration change as follows:

While in Win7 I set the .inf files [in all the drives] - to point to the Icons folder in drive F [with the correct path name] and it worked fine, In Windows-8 I decided to place an icon folder on each drive aside the .inf file and it seemed to do the trick. So - if option one does not seem to work for anyone - try the other method of the icon folder placement before giving up [quite close to where I was]...

Hell knows why it worked one way and not the other - and perhaps hell knows why option 2 did not work for me at all.

Thanks Brink, for leading the way...

    Cheers

    You're most welcome.

Yep, the icon needs to be on the drive you want it for as per Option One.

When Option Two doesn't work, you usually need to also do Option Three.
