Get my Theme to be the Default

  1. #11

It sounds like you just want your backgrounds to stay the same. Open the background menu in personalize and right click the picture you want and select which Monitor you want it on. You can do this with three different pictures for your monitors. I have mine set like this works great for two months now. Hope this helped.

I've saved themes into My Themes as you see below. I have even shared my three monitor themes as a package, but I want to know how to make My Theme My Default and not that darn Default Daisy. It is just a little annoying that every time I start up windows I have to reset the theme or look at the daisy.

I tried setting the background both way, either through the personalize function (right click on desktop, select Personalize, (image above is displayed) and select any one of the themes in the top row of "my themes". It displays fine for that session of Windows. Next time I log in, it reverts back to the Default (Daisy) Theme. Are you saying that once you select a theme it does not revert back to Default the next time you log in? It is aggravating, why won't it let me keep my theme? I did try going to my directory containing my background images and right clicking on those files and selecting "Set as Background" and that worked too ~ but only for that session, next restart and that dang Daisy is back.

    Sigh

As a test, create a new administrator account to see if it does the same while signed in to it.

Have you ever see the code for a Theme?

    Complicated to say the least.
I used Deskto Architect to make it.

Here are the included files ZIPPED.They are a big lot of theme stuff.:

They are attached as New folder.zip

These are the files called upon to make the theme functional.--Sounds-images-etc.

Well to answer your question, "No" Not into code, reading it, writing it nor understanding it.

    But thanks for sharing.

I tried this test, created a user for my wife, as an administrator and lo and behold it remembered her theme. She was able to select one of the themes I had created and upon restart it came back up just like it should.

Now this means it has something to do with my personal settings. Something is forcing windows to revert back to the old daisy default theme. I did notice another thing, if I change the to my theme too quickly, (as in immediately upon loading desktop) after a second or two it undoes that selection and goes back to the daisy again. I will look at my start up files (once I figure out where to find them in Windows 8). And see if there is something in there that might be the cause of this annoyance.

This is my start up files, I don't see anything in there that might be causing Windows to reload the default. I suppose I can disable them one at a time and just see.

Experimented with disabling the various programs, and it had no effect on the desktop, that dang daisy kept popping up every time. How do I edit the default theme in Windows. I did rename theme1.theme and theme2.theme in C:\windows\resources\theme (had to get past that "trustedinstaller" problem, but google got me through with a quick fix for that pain. I copied my fkd.theme to that directory and renamed it theme1.theme. Now my theme shows up beside the default theme (labeled FKD), but that dang daisy is still there. If I could get to the default I could get a work around. But apparently it has to do with something I've done in how I've set up my system because when I made that new user, there was no problem. So I know it is not hardware or drivers.

Such a little thing to get under my skin.

Gotta learn not to sweat the small stuff.

You might consider creating yourself a new administrator account to use instead.
