I am slowing getting use to windows 8, however I haven't been able to change the window colour. As I am dyslexic I need my background colour for each application to be blue but I can't see how to do this with windows 8. I have followed the process on how to change it with windows 7 but there are no advance settings in the color option. Can anyone help.

thanks

I would like to do this also. The bright white color is annoying. Also can the scrollbar color be changed?

I turned on high contrast through the charms menu. The options are there. Is there any way to have a picture on the desktop as opposed to a solid color? When using a theme from the windows store it reverts back to standard contrast.

I figured it out. I picked a picture and right clicked to set as desktop background. Thanks

Using high contrast, web pages show the window color rather than their normal background. Apparently it's an either or situation. Keep the normal web page and lose window customization or lose the way the web page is supposed to look.

Yes, you can't get an optimal solution but can change some colors.

This needs to be corrected in an update. There was no problem like this in XP.

The only way to do this is by editing the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\Colors
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

Unfortunately these are in hex values and you'll have to reboot to make the changes.

The good news is the Registry keys are the same in Windows 7 and 8. So you can customize the advanced appearance settings in 7 and open the Registry Editor and make a back-up of the above mentioned registry keys. You can do this by right-clicking on each key and select Export option. This will create .REG files. Import these .REG files into Windows 8 Registry Editor and restart Windows 8 desktop.

It didn't work . Color options are only effective when high contrast themes are selected.

This can be obtained in an image editor like GIMP or Photoshop.

It didn't work . Color options are only effective when high contrast themes are selected.

You're right.

The best solution is to select a hi-contrast theme, modify what we can, change background and then export it for further modifications.

I'm working on a AeroLite normal theme based on hi-contrast settings where we can modify most of the options.
