Video Screensaver

Afternoon all,
Given I found the Seven Forums so useful with my W7 Ultimate I thought I'd make this my first port of call before upgrading.

I'm wondering if Windows 8 does native video screensavers (not desktop backgrounds/Dreamscene (Vista users may remember))? I can't find anything about it on the web and on W7 you can get it via Windows Live Essentials but is very reliant on WEI not bugging out on you.

Basically I run four videos on rotation as my screensaver and would be annoyed to lose the ability if I upgrade. Also with the planned merge of Live Messenger into Skype I'm suspecting the rest of Live Essentials will be canned ...

Anyone know or able to check this? Or like Live Gallery you just point the "Gallery" screensaver to the videos?

Hello GarethS. Welcome to the Eight Forums.

Windows 8 does not have native animated wallpaper, Dreamscene or video screen savers. You can, and I have, installed programs that run animated wallpapers and/or video screen savers. They are completely compatible with Windows 8. Animated Wallpaper/Screensaver Maker is one option (not free) or also even better, (bing / google search >) DreamScene Video Wallpaper (also not free).

Thanks for the response, however it is solely being able to use video screensavers I'm interested in, I'm aware of Decor8 for modifying the start screen from other threads on here though as that would also be something I'd need to do if I upgraded to 8.

I've tweaked my OP to make things clearer.

Windows 8 is compatible with video screen savers. Also, I use Live Essentials (separate free download - only for email).

YES! It does work as you describe. I just (downloaded) did a test of Live Photo Gallery and set it as a screen saver. Although it was working only for WMV file types.

I have a series of four videos that I currently have on rotation for screensavers in Windows 7 (via Live Gallery from Live Essentials). I have the videos in .mpg but can also get them in .mov (dirty word/file extension)
