Yes, I know, Start8 and others add the Start Button and say it replaces the need for the Start Screen. Actually it replaces the All Apps Screen allowing the XP/Vista/Win7 hierarchical access to pretty much everything installed on the computer.

The Start Screen is really nice if you have a 7-inch tablet. Its a lot of nice colors on a 24-inch monitor with a small selection of programs you can start. The convenience of the Start Screen is you can select which programs/tiles you would like displayed. At the very least it would be nice if one could chose 9 (maybe even 10) rows of tiles (7 is the max now). What would be even nicer would be smaller tiles much like the All Apps Screen.

Different colors and images aren't of any use to get more rows of tiles and smaller tiles. Its just more stuff to make your 7-inch tablet look pretty.

Smaller tiles can't be done, as Microsoft just rebuilt the UI of Windows, so they rather would see how people use Windows 8 across many different devices before changes are done to it.

For example, Windows Phone 7 doesn't have small tiles or customizable tiles. Windows Phone 8 does now based off the usage data that was sent to Microsoft.

Also, extra rows of tiles are resolution dependent. If you have a 1080p resolution, you can have six rows or three rows, but not more than six. This MIGHT be able to be tweaked by someone, but so far, that's the way it is.

Wrong! You can have 7 rows with a 1920 x 1200 monitor. Still not enough to be really useful on such a large monitor.

Well I'll be! If you have 7 rows of tiles, that's almost at LEAST 101 small tiles if not more.
