Taskbar transparency

How can I stop the taskbar from being translucent? At the moment, the taskbar changes hue when I change the background picture, and it is slightly translucent, i.e. background picture features show through the taskbar a bit. I want the taskbar to be a solid, nontranslucent, nonchanging colour, but I cannot see any settings for that.

In general, the individual colour setting possibilities for borders, backgrounds, title bars, menus etc. are pretty pathetic compared with older versions of Windows. Or just very well hidden?

Hi Mate,

There is unfortunately no way to do this as of now. But give some more time i'm sure someone will come up with a way to crack it :)

I'm also looking for a solution to this. Posting so as to subscribe to the thread.
Current suggestions are to enable and use the AeroLite theme - this will disable the Taskbar Transparency, however the theme isn't quite as slick as the default Win8 one.

Hello-

Start8 by Stardock has an option to disable taskbar translucency. The biggest thing for this product is that it brings the start menu back, but if you don't want the start menu, you can hide it with a 1px graphic (available in custom image). However, it will effectively get rid of the translucency with a checkbox in the "Control" page of the config console.

I don't know about aeroLite... I tried it. Has dark text everywhere and that's the only drawback for me.

After a reboot, the transparency seems to be there again.:(

Hey guys. I'm still using windows 8 consumer preview and I don't think I understand you current problem.

Can someone try these steps if its possible:

1) right-click at desktop
2) choose "personalize"
3) then choose "window color"

from there you are able to modify the transparency settings.

unfortunately i don't know if this will work on win8 pro..

anyway, I'm just tryin to help. have a good day!

Most of us tried that from the minute it was released.

No: it will not work because transparency option is gone on the RTM.
If you customize your *.theme file (edit with notepad) by using "AeroLite.msstyles" instead of "Aero.msstyles", apply the new theme and you will get rid of the transparent taskbar.

Have a good day too.

Yeah. I figured that would be the case (that the transparency option is gone), and that this problem wouldn't be posted here if there was an easy fix..

This Aerolite thing sounds like a good solution for the transparancy issue. I'll give everything else suggested here too a go.
