Review: Apple iPhone 5 in front of the smartphone pack

When Apple introduced the iPhone 4S last October, you could sense the initial disappointment. Many people were longing for an iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S that came instead may not have represented a dramatic upgrade, but it was a snappy handset with an excellent camera and a sometimes-obedient virtual digital assistant named Siri. It went on to become the best-selling iPhone to date.

Nearly a year later the iPhone 5 is upon us. And what I detect this time is lust. The feelings are unlikely to diminish once buyers get their hands on the iPhone 5 Friday, or whenever their pre-ordered phones arrive.

Sadly for the MS Windows phone 8 fans, the words Microsoft or Windows phone is not mentioned 1 time in this story. It's like they don't even know it exists.

Windows Phone 8 isn't out in retail for about another month, so it can't technically be used for comparison, although I've read some articles by the author on my USA Today apps on my Windows devices and the guy doesn't really care to cover Microsoft so much.

Now as for Windows Phone and iphone, break it down to hardware specs and Windows Phone wins. Compare iphone to a high end android phone, the android phone wins out. To me, it's a bit posh to say the iphone is better simply "because it's an iphone."

Still thought, not even a mention that says, "Hey, you might want to wait a couple of months and consider the new Windows 8 phone".
