    New Technet Sub

I first got a Technet sub when Win 7 was released but I let it lapse. I was just about to pull the trigger on a new sub but while looking for a promo code came across this
The subscription provides you with access to software and associated benefits. When your subscription concludes, you will no longer have access to the software or any associated benefits and must discontinue your use of the software.
Can someone confirm that if I let my sub expire expire in 12 months that I will be unable to use the software I download? All the software I got with my previous sub still runs but if I have to keep renewing to run new software I won't bother subscribing.

There was a new sub agreement that went into effect this Month. They also say that MS can disable all your keys when your sub expires. They did not say they WILL do that but they CAN. You pays your money and takes your chances. TechNet was not designed to pay once and run all your PC's forever. It was designed for developers to TEST the new software and then buy what they want.

I just found the new(from July 16 2012) TechNet Subscription Agreement and it clearly states:

You may not use the software if you do not have an active subscription
There goes that idea. I'll have to wait til retail.

For the $199 TechNet sub you can buy 5 Upgrade copies of Windows 8 and not worry if your keys get canceled. I think you are making a wise choice. Just 11 weeks to go. This also gives the vendors time to tweak their drivers and software.

I think the keyword here is "subscription", just like when you subscribe to Zune music pass you can download all the music you want and listen to it on however many devices. Cancel your subscription and all that music stops working. You're not buying the software for that price you are subscribing to use that software.

Hi there If you like XP and are still on TechNet why don't you download W2003 (W2K3) SERVER and then follow these steps to run it as a desktop OS -- mainly as a VM though it's easier. Use XP drivers for installing any specific hardware. Life support is longer than XP -- you have until JUNE...

Nothing on Technet yet :) in General Support
Well nothing on the technet site yet. Would be nice if they posted things by midnight on the day it was supposed to come out, but then it's only a rumor that it'll be out today anyway. I hadn't been on the site in a while and was pretty disappointed to see that for the second time in two...
