ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you don't know perogis. Everyone will tell you that potato, or cheese is the ONLY way to go.
Everyone except where I came from. Genuine 1st and 2nd generation Chicago Poles. I think that may be a slightly biased evaluation coming from a Texas BBQ head. You're from Texas if I remember correctly?

I can remember reading a thread where you and others were discussing BBQ shortly after I signed up here. I learned a few things. I'll listen to you all day long on that, but perogies?!

Lol! Put that on your pit and brush it!

    @ Max

Thanks for posting your story. Well done! Sounds like a very fulfilling career for sure. You are one of the lucky ones.

Although we don't share the same opinions on 8, I certainly learn a lot reading your posts.

Thanks Hippsie. Oh, I dunno if we differ terribly on Win8 - I'm not against the thing at all. I'd like to see it make it, they just need to fix some things. As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on it. I may try it again myself one of these days. I just needed to table it for a little while: it didn't have anything I absolutely needed yet.

LMAO what's being a Texan, and knowing Polish cuisine have to do with one another? I also eat flacki, kabanoski, glunki, COME on NOW, you didn't think I was a BBQ only cowboy did you? AND seeing that you had mentioned BBQing, the night before when I set up my marinade I use as part of my ingrediences vegeta. NOW how does that strike your tummy?

I forgot to mention WordStar. A forerunner to Word!

Would you believe, that between my wife & I, we have 18 remote controls in use!!

I will not bore you to death with the details.

I just finished dubbing VCR tape to DVD disc. We must have hundreds of VCR tapes!

If a burglar ever entered our apt. He would not get out, wires & cables everywhere!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

I still set my programming IDE so that CTRL-Y deletes the current line. A holdover from WordStar! Now if I could just get it to do CTRL-H as a backspace! I'll have to check that!

Dubbing VHS to DVD? Yeah, I did that for most of the last year. Between my regular DVD's and the 100 or so VHS titles I had my catalog now has close to 400 titles all in 4 drawers. I wrote a catalog system to keep track of the whole thing. :-)

How about PFS Professional Write? Any of you geezers remember that one? That was my favorite word processor! It ran off a 5 1/4 floppy and saved the documents on another 5 1/4 disk.

Ok, Max. I fully understand now. I feel that Microsoft has been a fairly good company through the years. They sure got big and employee many. I sure the hay hope that 8 makes it, just as I hope a lot of American made products do. The three core economic pillars of auto, building, and manufacturing have taken a big beating these past eight years or so. Everything else trickles down from those.

A lot of us home builders and contractors are at a crawl, no thanks to those who got greedy! Unemployment still too high. Something needs to kick start this economy otherwise we're all in for some deep doodoo I feel.

I used Pro Write for years. It was an excellent Word Processor, especially in its later versions after they stopped calling it pfs:Professional Write.

I've been using Microsoft's development tools since DOS 1.1. I've always liked Microsoft stuff. The development tools are unmatched in the industry as is the Office suite. SQL Server is outstanding as is Visual Studio. I question some of their decisions lately but I'm still inclined to think that Microsoft will straighten things out eventually. The phenomenon that everybody observes (bad release then good release) is just a cycle. Win8 may wind up being considered the bad release in the cycle like Vista was but even Vista was in pretty good shape after a couple of service packs.

You're in construction, huh? Ugh ... yeah, that industry has really taken it in the chin. As for the deep doodoo ... I don't personally see any way to avoid it. With the spending policies and massive debt we've accumulated the problem is coming home to roost. I'm not confident that there's any "leadership" in place that will fix anything - but that's getting way off-topic.

Back on topic: I'll probably always be a Microsoft developer. The depth of their development platform is pretty incredible and the quality of the tools is unmatched. For my own use I'm sticking with the 2008 line of Visual Studio and SQL Server, I don't really need anything more recent. As for Office ... they haven't shown me anything past 2003 that I really care about. 2003 continues to work fine even under Win8.

I attempted an upgrade on my ol' trusty XP. It didn't work out, no message, no boot. Hopefully It'll boot, but it has served us well. BIOS seems broken, cannot recover, cannot use the boot menu, seems like a new HDD install. I paid $40 and nothing. :( :sleepy: I'm too tired to fix...
