    You're very lucky then. I didn't get my first PC until after I graduated college. It was an IBM with a 4.77Mhz processor.

    Your 5150 was highly modified then since the 5150 typically only came with floppy drives. The one I bought in 1984 only had floppies and 256K of RAM.

    In 1986, I built my first computer, a clone of an IBM PC XT with an 8Mhz 8088 (swapped in an Nec V20 which was something like 8% faster), with 640K RAM, 2 360K floppies and a 20MB hdd.

    Up until a couple of years ago, I had a collection of the early IBM machines. I had several 5150 PCs, 5160 XTs, 5170 ATs, and 4860 PC Jrs. I also had a 5162 XT 286 and a 5140 Convertible which was IBM's first laptop. In addition to my IBMs I also had a Compaq portable, a TRS-80 and a TRS-100. Unfortunately, my computer collection took too much room to store so I ended up divesting myself of my collection.

    I attended the launch of Win 95 at the RDS center in Dublin Ireland.
    I still have the personal invitation, the envelope it came in & the "T" shirt that says "I WAS THERE".
    Windows 95! Bill Gates was there in person!

    TRS 80 with 2! 5 1/4 floppies!

    My first work computer, during the Space Race" was a DEC PDP 8E With "High Speed ASCII punched tape Reader-Writer" for input & output.

    No monitor or keyboard! Input tape was punched on Friden Flexowriter" Tape punch typewriter & out put was put the output tape in the Friden & let it print the out put!

    No other computer available for pure engineering work!
    It was used to calculate resonant frequencies of machine used for making missile parts!

    Reminds me of my Nokia MikroMikko, I had two of these (first one burned, Nokia replaced it for free):

    Two 5¼" floppy drives, too. The funny thing was that the one I bought had the CP/M operating system but when it burned and I got the replacement from Nokia, they had switched to MS-DOS so the replacement couldn't run any of the software I had coded and bought for the first one. I already had an IBM PC, too, I felt I did not need two MS-DOS computers so I ended up selling the replacement Nokia.

    About the name MikroMikko, Mikro is Finnish for "Micro" and Mikko is a popular Finnish male name. More about MikroMikko computers in Wikipedia: MikroMikko - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    @Kari,
    I never heard of CP/M and followed your link. Pretty interesting, it was actually pretty powerful and ahead of it's time:
    Legacy[edit]

    A number of behaviors exhibited by modern versions of Microsoft Windows are a result of backwards compatibility to MS-DOS, which in turn attempted some backwards compatibility with CP/M. The drive letter and 8.3 filename standard in MS-DOS (and early Windows versions) was originally adopted from CP/M.[31] The wildcard matching algorithm used by Windows Command Prompt is based on that of CP/M,[32] as are the reserved filenames used to redirect output to a printer ("PRN"), and the console ("CON").[33] Also, the character marking the end of some text files can also be attributed to CP/M.[34]

I attempted an upgrade on my ol' trusty XP. :cry: It didn't work out, no message, no boot. Hopefully It'll boot, but it has served us well. BIOS seems broken, cannot recover, cannot use the boot menu, seems like a new HDD install. I paid $40 and nothing. :( :sleepy: I'm too tired to fix...
