Well that's really no different from any other phone. They all have an 18 month window of being able to accept OS upgrades /if you're lucky/.

The Lumia 900 was released just a month or two ago. Windows Phone 8 is out in the fall. That's a pretty short lifespan for staying current.

Ah yeah, MS really screwed over the Kin people too. Maybe they should offer a discount for an upgrade or something :/

    Meh.

I have a Lumia 900 and I'll be getting a major chunk of Windows Phone 8's software features, except for the NT core.

I knew what I was getting into, I don't have need for NFC technology as I don't see that becoming mainstream until the iphone has it. Dual core processor isn't needed for Windows Phone 7, as it isn't android and isn't a crappy os from the start.

Technically, it is still current because it's a WINDOWS PHONE 7! It's not 8. Lumia owners and other Windows Phone 7.5 owners will be getting 7.8, which has the main Windows Phone 8 design. Nokia has even declared that they will still be continuing support and app development for ALL Lumia owners.

It's weird, some people are losing their crap over this, when in iphone world, you can't get ios 6's new features on an iphone 4, that came out two years ago. It's happened before and it's happening again, yet no one is rioting and demanding answers from apple or anyone. In the android world, you buy a BRAND NEW phone, only to have four year old software running on it with absolutely no guarantee for updates or support. If I bought a new android 4 phone, I have no guarantee of an update to android 5. Yet, no one is losing their crap over that. Yet, in a two year old phone market of Windows Phone, the fact that 8 is being cut out due to hardware and genuine software changes, people are losing their crap, rioting, and demanding answers from Microsoft, Nokia, and att. Really?! They're all still supporting WINDOWS PHOEN 7!

I don't feel too gipped. My crap is still in place.

I don't think Microsoft issued refunds when it dumped PlaysForSure, and that was a much worse situation. I don't know much about Kin, other than it was a recent Microsoft phone-like thing; it kind of popped up and disappeared just as quickly on my radar screen, like a UFO or some other bogey.

How do you like it? I'm obsessed with Nokia hardware (I use an N8Belle) and have loved windows phone OSs for years. Is it a match made in heaven? When I read that Microsoft was ditching Bing maps for Nokia maps I almost popped my clogs. Best. Decision. Ever!

If I'm chill with not getting full on Windows Phone 8, it must be fantastic!

Honestly, I love it. The UI is something that no other phone OS has and feels SO slick and smooth, it's impeccable. What's even more cool is that its CPU is only a single core and it handles literally everything except for 1080p video recording. Oh! The ClearBlack screen of the Lumia with the Windows Phone's live tiles, BEAUTIFUL! A genuine match made in heaven!

I just read today that by the end of this week, some of the new additional software improvements for the Lumia phones will be arriving.

Best of all, with att, if you want a new Windows Phone 8, you can upgrade in 18 months. I just checked my update availability and next November I can get my hands on a new Nokia phone!

Excellent! It makes my day to meet another Nokia fan. I had a windows moble phone briefly, circa Iphone 1, and I was smug as anything that my phone could do all sorts of complex things (not) like running multiple apps at the same time, copying and pasting between apps, and accepting a phone call without closing the app I was working in -- I'm not sure they were called apps back then though. I dropped it in a bucket of salt water and replaced it with a Nokia -- maybe the N97.

It saddens me that Nokia has fallen behind, but I think they made the best decision by switching to windows phone OS. I read the CEO thinks that multicore for phones is just a battery sink, and from what you say, you don't seem to really need it. I'm not looking forward to my N8 failing, but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

I always buy my phones unlocked (lately directly from Nokia), but it's great to hear you'll be able to upgrade conveniently
