This laptop was originally bought in like new condition off Amazon in September of 2014 with Windows 7 Home Premium installed and about 6 months later I got a e-mail from my school telling me I could get all kinds of software free for my computer and then decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, about a week later I wanted to give Windows 8.1 a try, well after failing on using it the first ti
I bought one of the early $40 W8.0 versions and installed it in a virtual partition. That was upgraded to W8.1. Then I have 2 laptops and a tablet that came with 8.1.

This Dell laptop, which I got due to my previous machine going kaput after so many years of good service. My last Windows I ever used was Win2k. I've been using Linux exclusively for over twelve years, so coming back to Windows is a sort of new experience for me. I'm soon going to dual boot proper (installed my previous Linux distro, Debian Jessie, via virtual machine for now, mostly out of curiosity about virtual machines), but just haven't got round to it right now (laziness is so enticing). So far, though, I'm enjoying Windows a bit more than I expected, although that could be due to playing with something "new".

first system i ever had windows 8.1 on was a gateway laptop that i bought from a second hand store back in february of this year, it was pretty beat up and whoever owned it before me was obviously very abusive with it. i had it for like only 2 days and it started having troubles and i couldnt use it anymore. never got my money back for it. i was pissed lol two months later i purchased my acer aspire e15 laptop from walmart (the one im using now). so far no problems. Both laptops came with windows 8.1 pre installed bundled with other useless software

My laptop came with Windows 8, which was upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro. But, I downgraded Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 7 Pro (I really regret doing it,because BIOS is locked for some reason without my permission). Now I have other problems with it (if I schedule a chkdsk run,it will do it with a stuck at Starting Windows screen and some bars that fill with white dots, indicating that chkdsk is still running, but I can't see the progress, the same goes for Recovery Options).

Started out with the Win 8 previews on a VM. Clean installed Win 8 on a VM once it was released, then upgraded that VM to Win 8.1. Then I bought an 8" tablet that came with Win 8.1. Since then I have gotten a 12" tablet and a laptop both with Win 8.1.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
Had a Dell E6400 with Vista and upgraded it to W8 when it was $40.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I bought an HP Pavilion Elite m9458f Desktop PC about 6 1/2 years ago that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home and it was replaced with Windows 7 Ultimate the 1st day Windows 7 was available for sale. After testing Windows 8 throughout it's development and purchasing the $15 dollar upgrade offer to Windows 8.0 Pro at launch the computer was upgraded again from Windows 7.

I will probably upgrade the OS for a 4th time for free when Windows 10 becomes available, hopefully this machine will last a few more years and has served me well.

Purchased my current HP machine in December 2013 with 8.1 OEM. I work on a five year plan: every five years or so I scrap what I have and buy everything new (hardware and operating system current at the time). So, I have gone from W98 > XP > Vista > 8.1. My next system will probably have W? in 2019. :)
