Brand Obsessions and Item Stashing

Ok, so I've updated my spec tab in my profile, then I took a look around my room / office and found that I didn't have a small collection of devices. Ranging from a large collection of items from HP, to Acer, to Logitech.

Actually made me start to think, do we inherently obsess about certain brands and then then to stash them.

For the record, at the time of this post, I currently have, 3 HP printers, 1 HP DVD Writer, 1 Acer Monitor, 1 Acer Netbook, 1 logitech webcam, mouse, keyboard, and speakers.

I can't help but notice that I think I have found my most majorly bought brands for electronics.

So here's the dish to you guys, and it's also a poll too

What brands to you own most of, What are they, and why you obsess about them.

P.S. - For HP, to me I feel that they produce high quality parts, and components. For Logitech, similar to HP on a manufacturing stand, but for them, it's the products they offer and they what the consumer wants.

P.S.S. - For internal hardware, I obsess about Corsair PSUs, Western Digital HDDs, and AMD / ATI CPUs and GPUs.

Obsess? Nah, but I am a fan of WD so I voted that.

I own older Compaq (Originally XP) and HP (Origanally Vista) Computers that are still in use today and were upgraded to the next version of Windows, the only hardware issues I have had are with external hard drives drives, 2 WD & 1 HP drive.

Also the HP computer was purchased in late 2008 and today runs both Windows 7 and Windows 8 Consumer Preview flawlessly.

Last year I built my own computer that is listed in my system specs and so far I have had no problems either (knocks on wood).

Also I prefer Canon Printers over HP ones as I haven't had any issues with a Canon one + better quality and software is not as bloated as HP.

PS: I added an imaginary check mark beside imaginary Nvidia in the poll as I own both brands plus both AMD and Nvidia are the only 2 GPU manufacturers ATM and both have a huge market share.

You mean the drive enclosures? That's a completely different story than the drives themselves.

As to freely choose. I always wait for any Intel new product that makes PC system architecture keep changing though I will not always buy one.

I have personal preferences, but wouldn't call them obsessions. If something is clearly better than something else, even if it's from a brand I like/trust - I'll use that instead.

ie:

I prefer MS as an OS
I prefer Intel for CPU's
I prefer Asus for Mobos and GPU's
I prefer Corsair for PUS
I prefer Crucial for SSD
I prefer Samsung for HDD's
I prefer Razor Mice
etc

But I'm not obsessed about any of them.

MS and intel are a combo that are unlikely for me to switch from.

But I'm thinking about Gigabyte or MSI for GPU replacements.

I'd switch to a different SSD manufacturer if a new model suits me better.

If I need a new PSU, I'm open to options - as long as it suits my needs and is well made.

I think Razor quality is poor - but a few models have suited my style than others.

Acers seem to breed at my place.

Currently there are five (2xP4 desktops, 1x1.4Ghz Centrino laptop (deceased), 1xCore 2 Duo 2Ghz laptop, and this i7 laptop).

Nope the drives themselves, the HP died within 1 year and the WD externals contained the cheap green drives which failed within 6 months of each other although one was about 3 yrs old and the other newer USB 3 RMA'd within the 1 st year, The caviar black internal ones are the most reliable WD drives (have 2 of them too) and trouble free.

I have more problems with Blue, than Green. I don't really have the budget for a black. But when I build my new computer, or gut the HP I'm going to be getting I'm gonna up to a black with SSD. If all else I'll be going full out all custom.

lol I know the feeling. Technically speaking, we have 5 HP printers throughout this house. I also love HP of their environmental pact and free recycling for their ink cartridges.

I love WD drives, Nothing but success from them. Plus I can't argue with their awesome warranty and RMA service should I need it.

I prefer Intel CPUs and MS OS.
Using a Gigabyte motherboard, but will check others before buying the next one, like mine though.
Corsair PSUs, but will look at other quality ones.
Intel and Crucial SSDs, mainly because they co-own a nand producing company.
Seagate HDDs, had a couple WD die on me so they are off my list for now.
Corsair RAM.
Logitech keyboards.
Have a Dell desktop and laptop, Acer desktop, toshiba laptop and my custom rig.

Locked into my CPU and OS, will add to my SSD list, any new desktop will be custom, laptop likely Dell but not definitely.

What about brands you hate? Dell.

Nice Vince, yea, I've had nothing but bad luck with them and Toshiba.

Happy to help, Austin. Decades ago, Dell Computers were the best. But they failed to improve, and then they had to lower their prices. So they began intentionally making cheap parts that would wear out after the warranty expired. My wife has a twelve year old Dell that still runs well. But those days are gone.

On my builds over the years I have mostly used the following brands.

ASUS - Motherboards
AMD - CPU's but that may change on the next build.
Logitech - Marble Track Balls and game controllers
Western Digital - Internal and external HDD.
Crucial - Memory

Jim, as you seen, I speak highly of WD. A lot of that is from their CM, and quality parts.

In general terms, I find it rather interesting that people all have their brands they love.

Moreover, I'm also interested what is attracting, people to those brands, weather it be cause they look pretty?

D-Link for networking although I am considering switching brands. The hardware is good but their tech support sucks.

I use HP all-around if I get a good price. But I tend to stick to their printers.

I've been using Logitech for my accessories for a while now. I like them a lot.

I use netgear for my network needs.

My first PC was an Osborne 386 SX20 but I've had such a good run with Acers over the last
10 years or so that I do tend to look at them first when thinking of an new machine.

I'll buy Intel over AMD, but once ran a Cyrix 686/300(!!??).

Nvidia is my choice of GPU.

Seagate for HDD (have 500GB and 2TB externals) , but also own a few WD and
Maxtor drives. This laptop has twin Toshiba 750s in it!

I like Belkin I/R keyboards and my game-controllers are all Logitech.

My laser-printer and 3-in-1 inkjet are both Lexmark.

Just when you think no one is going to post... BAM they pounce in the middle of the night.

Kat, I'm gonna be getting a new printer, I just dont know if I'm gonna be getting a laser or an ink jet.
