TBH it may not be what it seems, I use a macbook air when out and about due to it's weight and battery life, but it's running Windows 8.1!!

Ok for you, you have a high end notebook and a high end OS...but an audience hall full of Hackentoshes? I was thinking maybe this time Apple wanted to steal ideas from Microsoft, who in the case of Windows 10 use a lot of ideas from Ubuntu and other Debian based OSs, who in turn(if you ever noticed all the different Gnome interfaces) are mostly inspired from Apple....etc

This is nothing new and not surprising. Journalists, musicians, and graphics arts people mostly use Macs. It's just the way it is.

A surface pro doesn't work well in this environment. Try to balance it on your lap with the keyboard and type. Not the right tool for this job.

I'd bet heavily that there isn't a single journalist in that crowd running Windows on their MacBook. Not that it doesn't work well, but rather that is not what these people do.

Macs get used in these environments because that are built well, the screen is great, gesture support is top notch, battery life is all day, they sleep and wake from sleep almost instantly, and are far less susceptible to viruses, spyware, malware, etc.

Good argument, and it fits your signature. I use Ubuntu if I'm curious about a site I don't quite trust, being I get my programs from apt-get or software center I can set the OS up to be more secure than Ft. Knox.
