Newbie and question(s) about Win 8

    Hello,
    Just registered today.
I did so because I would like to know what does it take to use Windows 8.

I am more or less competent in computer, but know nothing about Win 8.
Would someone please give me the " 101 " ?
    Thank you.

P.S. I posted in Chill Out forum because I do not know if my question is applicable to any of the other forums.

Perhpas, if I narrow down the query this way.....
I understand that it is advisable to use a 2nd computer to test the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
    Questions :
    1. If I don't want to install yet, and I just want to download the ISO into a DVD or USB flash drive ,
which link do I use......( both seems to offer the same option of downloading ISO.)
    Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview
Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO formats

    2. By the time the commercial version is released to the public, do the users using the "Preview" get to install the final version FREE ?
    Thank you.

    Hi,

Choose the 32 or 64 bit version you want from your link here: Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO formats

If you install it, it will work until mid-January 2013.

The final version is not free for testers.

If you're not in any hurry to install, you can wait another month or so (give or take) for the RC to be released.

    Additional question....
If I were to purchase a tablet, a less expensive make and model, would 2 GB ram be really enough as System & Requirements says ?

Yes, 2 GB is large for 32 bit. It would also be sufficient for 64 bit, but there really is no point in making a tablet 64 bit.

64 bit is really only helpful for heavy video editing/encoding, CAD/engineering software, music production where many many VST plugins are utilized, heavy Photoshop....things of that nature.

    You're welcome.
