about computers, different OS, but directly related to 8

on the first i'm going to get a new printer for this windows 8. that's easy. but the printer must also work on windows XP. again, that's easy. but the problem i'm running into is the number of bits the printer will only use in XP. for example, I picked one biased onwhat it will do for windows 8, but will work in XP with 32 bits only.

but where on the XP computer do I look to find out how much bits I have?

the model number is: Emachines W3107 (yes, that old) it came with windows XP home edition. it is now XP sp3.

the big problem is after XP, starting with vista*, printers and PCs' stopped coming with software for doing envelopes.

    that's what I was told

First, I do not really understand that about printer and bits. A printer is a printer and has nothing to do with bit version of Windows; you install the printer drivers in XP and separately in Windows 8 and that's it. You can print to same printer from both.

Windows XP Home edition has never had a 64 bit (x64) version, it has only been available as 32 bit version (x86). Windows XP Professional was available also as 64 bit version but it is quite rare.

Hello all. I have a question regarding the choice between win 8 and win 8.1. As stated here on 8forums, on October 18th the win 8.1 will be released as final version. Does this mean that i'll be able to download not the win 8.1 preview ISO, but the win 8.1 FINAL ISO? Or i'll still need to run the...
Install from .iso directly in Installation & Setup
I thought this was pretty slick. Not sure when it was introduced, but I was able to start the install of 8.1 Preview directly from the downloaded .iso file. Just double clicked on it to open in Windows Explorer then double clicked on setup.exe and off it went. This only works from a booted Windows...
At the moment, the restarting - selecting Seven from boot menu, restart again is a huge PITA. Anyone know of a Win8 based way of Restart directly into seven, essentially skipping the double restart. I prefer the old method of select - boot. Not select - restart, boot.
