Computerworld - Microsoft yesterday kicked off what it called a "two-year countdown" to the death of Windows XP, its longest-lived operating system.

Windows XP and the business productivity suite Office 2003 both exit all support on April 8, 2014, a company spokeswoman said.

Yes, those who don't already have win 7 better get it before MS take it off the shelves.

They might keep selling win7 for quite a while, just in case Win8 is not very popular.

Or - they might stop selling Win7 when Win8 comes out. That gives people little choice.

If they force peoples against their will to the Metro Start page, do you think they gone give the option to purchase Windows 7 ? The enterprise yes. but the common users, no way. Anyway I care less as the business customer I have use only 3 or 4 software in their PC' I will just make sure they have short cut in their desktop.

What is this nonsense? You can purchase it even if it is OFF the retailer's shelves! Matter of fact I had to get a copy of Windows 98SE a few weeks ago because the customer's computer had that original, altho the older plain Win98 BUT the computer was less that 100MHz so I could only upgrade it to Windows 98SE. You can contact Microsoft directly and purchase older operating system, as well as even Microsoft Bob. (Had to put that back on the customer's PC as well).
