Netflix to attempt to block VPN even for SUBSCRIBERS

Hi there

I suppose this had to happen sooner or later - but it IS a backward step IMO since this will surely encourage MORE piracy.

Netflix and other providers should realize that the world is a GLOBAL village these days and the best way forward is to OPEN UP these services to everybody at the same time - and they'd get a whole lot more subscriptions too.

Even in the US legitimate subscribers will be blocked from access via a VPN (or at least attempts will be made to stop access).

This is probably not Netflix's idea, I am sure it is due to the whiney content providers.

Sure but stopping people who have PAID for a VPN so they can PAY netfix for content is a really dumb idea - whosever it was.

Hi there.

It's obvious that this must be the BEST news Torrent sites have had for years - I'd expect to see them getting a lot more traffic due to this stupid move.

If I were a director of Netflix I wonder what I would be telling my stockholders next year when their subscription income takes a huge nosedive.

Cheers

I wonder if this has anything to do with an earlier article I read. According to this article, since some ISP's were throttling the bandwidth of Netflix (for some business related reason or another...I forget), a VPN was listed as the workaround. According to the article, even if the ISP was throttling the bandwidth, a VPN allowed full speed access.

No mention of blocking the smart DNS services like unblock-us and unotelly, but I suppose they would be next.....I'd better hurry up and watch agents of shield on Mexican netflix then

you can't use tor anymore either as the known exit nodes are blocked. It's annoying - you try to pay but can't.

Mexican Netflix? Never knew about that. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime. We have also been using unblock us for a couple of years to get my British TV that is not on US PBS (most of it). What ever the content providers block there will always be a way around it somehow even if it means my brother in the UK mailing me a DVD and vice versa. The TV in the UK may be crap as far as UK residents are concerned but compared to what we have here it's superb.

So I suppose you must subscribe to Mexican Netflix. What is that about 2 GBP per month?

I never knew that and I have been a user of Netflix since it used to come in the DVD player box (14 years). So you mean I can log in over in Blighty and watch my whacky British shows? I'll have to try this right now,

OK while watching TOTP 2 from the past I logged into Netflix and it knows who I am and gave me this ? I was hoping for some British Telly instead of all the Yankee stuff.

I have been using that service for about 2 years and it is flawless. The price is in CDN $ not US $.
