Death Of Best Buy's Big Box Store?

Best Buy will shift toward mobile sales and smaller stores in an effort to boost sagging revenue and compete with rivals like Amazon and Wal-Mart. Best Buy’s signature big box stores will be dialed back, and 50 will close in 2012, the company said this morning.

RadioShack predicted both Circuit City folding and Best Buy 15 years ago. Not that I approve of any of them, but RS has a proven business model that has worked a lot longer than either of the other major electronics retailers have been around.

Now lets see if they can ship hot Christmas items on time. Their webstore is really rather poor -- last year they pre-sold kindles and ipads and weren't able to ship hundreds of them until after XMas.

Meh, the only thing Best Buy is good for is for getting the tech item you want now (NOW! NOW!) instead of waiting two days for amazon to ship. Not sure web store is a good move for them.
