Windows 8...
to me, it is the best os since xp.
i have seen a TON of videos about "windows 8 sucks" and I disagree.
There is a poll so you can vote.
i had a bad experience with 7, because I bought a laptop with starter on it, so I could BARELY do anything.

Well Windows 7 starter isn't exactly the best version of 7 to be judging it on.

I like Windows 8, but then I've not had any problems with it and find it quite easy to find things and work with.;)

Yes, but voters might be a bit confused, since 8.1 is a little advanced 8, but then again 8.1 still sucks.

I have used 8 since beta and throughout the RC version and I bought it the same day, it was released and the same day I began to hate it. For starters RTM was not anything like RC version. I am not IT Pro, but I know stuff and I had to google how to open control panel in 8 for 3 hours, because at first I have had to find out, how to even get to desktop, open explorer or even IE. Yes the Start menu would have really helped, I have used it for shortcuts, since taskbar does not allow to launch applications the way Vista allowed it, in 7 and 8 they get merged into a mess and narrow icons, which are hard to click onto. Then everything else, like it takes min 3 secs to open control panel, if you manage to hit the corner right in comparison to one click in half second thought the Start. I am not even gonna mention the charm menu, you are left with a hope, that it will eventually appear when you point the mouse there, just like aborigines hope for a rain. I prefer to work fast and 8 turned Windows into a nightmare. I wait for 9, that might turn 8 into something usable, like 7 did Vista.

8.1 is a good system - although I still have most of my systems on 7 and one on Vista. Just two are 8.1. I am cheap, LOL.

I'm not a fan of Metro and its apps, but that can all be concealed with v8.1. I think it runs better than 7.

I used Windows 8 as my main OS since October 2012 and can't understand this. The Release Preview was basically identical to the RTM. The main shift in UI design came from Developer to Consumer Preview where that did actually require relearning of things because quite a bit changed.

I'm mildly surprised at the poll results so far. It's not like how it was a year ago where it was more 60/40 split where more yays than nays.

As for Windows 8.1.1, it's fantastic. There are things they did shoot themselves in the foot with the initial release of 8, but rectified it partially in 8.1.1 at least to me. My main problem is the lack of File Explorer tiles on Start. That's something that's been on the start menu for so many years, at least they could have put them there to make the change easier. They had it so the Desktop UI and modern UI were two literally different things where the Desktop was treated like an app, with modern to navigate around. (That's ironic as the Desktop allows you alter modern UI settings.)

I've deployed Windows 8 on a few dozen PCs so far, and have changed a few peoples' minds about 8. Some completely didn't like it and had such a time with it, I come along with my custom image of 8 (and customized Start experience) and give them a little tutorial on what's going on and they've always been fine. Some people that I'd never even want to do something like Windows 8 with them because of difficulties they have as is with computers and Windows 7, they went ahead with 8 and learned it way too quickly. My father namely, that was such a pain in the crotch to move from vista to 7, but he wanted 8 for some reason. Three days is all it took. It's shocking.

It really depends on the setup. If Microsoft used the Start Screen as literally a giant start menu versus a different environment, they would have had a better response. That's me.

There are ways around that. I put a custom background on my wife's netbook that ran Starter. My daughter now uses that netbook for her college classes and doesn't have a problem with Starter.

Not being able to change the background is a long way from "i had a bad experience with 7, because I bought a laptop with starter on it, so I could BARELY do anything."

I don't think it does once one figures out what they are dealing with. I hated it at first then found ways to make it like I wanted. The Metro/Tile interface is sucky for many. Switched to desktop with Classic Shell and I'm fine.
Other tweaks here and there. It doesn't suck for me.

I do think drivers are still a problem for some, especially WiFi.

Hi there

Windows 8.1 is what W8 should have been.

Metro is still though an umitigated disaster - badly thought out operation on Desktops. The whole STORE concept IMO is also a flawed concept - just because Apple and Google do it doesn't mean that's the right way for Windows -- Windows should still be available in ISO form whether as an OEM image or retail.

You have the CRAZY situation now that if you need to re-install a windows 8.1 system that you upgraded from an OEM windows 8 - you have to go back, re-install Windows 8 and then try the upgrade again and all then add all the updates since the initial release of W8.1 -- Absolutely crazy -- what sort of people attend TECHNICAL MEETINGS when this type of stuff is discussed or do they assume people never re-install Windows -- which is really funny - people have been doing that since Windows first appeared on the scene many years ago..

The person who let this crazy Store only update idea out of the door should be taken to any public square in Downtown Seattle and PUBLICLY FLOGGED !!!. If there aren't any decent squares in downtown Seattle then outside the Ms Campus would also be a good place.

(Actually there IS plenty of choice if Ms goes pushing people too far in directions they don't want to go).

Cheers
jimbo
