Welcome to the forum erichardson I'm sure you'll find lots of help here so that you can enjoy your new laptop.
You will find Windows 8 is not as bad as some people try to make out and I'm sure you'll soon get to grips with the new OS.

    Again Welcome.

    1. The very first thing I suggest is to make a backup of the whole disk to an external HD. This includes Windows OS & All the Recovery Partitons. You can use the free backup software: Macrium Reflect Free , Macrium User Manual
    2. Uninstall all the bloat ware that came installed with it: The PC Decrapifier Wipes Unwanted Junk
