    Microsoft to De-emphasize Windows

    Hi there
Microsoft de-emphasizes Windows, lays out mobile device plans

Not sure that going after the Low end of the market brings in masses of money -- once these people have their devices they tend not to upgrade frequently and they don't tend to spend much on Content either - so you might make a one-off win but long term it's not a good idea for a highly technical company like Microsoft.

Going after a low end product works in China for example but it's doomed in the long term for countries where consumers want more quality in their devices. Apple succeeded very well in not going after "the masses". - Ms can never compete with really low wage economies so why bother. Do what you are best at --that's the way to make money - not to go after markets that will never bring you in those huge profits.

It is. To abandon Windows would likely be the end of Microsoft.
