Hi there.
I see I have a nice little letter sent by "Humberside Police" that I was doing 74 MPH (119 KM/hr in sensible units) on a totally empty road on a dual carriageway (Freeway / motorway standard) just before the Humber Bridge after a day out with some friends in Lincoln -- nice old city plus cathedral BTW - but not the best selection of pubs though.
So I've been offered a 95 GPB 4hr speed awareness course !!! or I can just pay 100 GBP and get 3 pts on a UK drivers license - I've got a load of other ones - Belgian, Dutch, Icelandic etc so I'm tempted just to forget the whole deal.
In most of mainland Europe 120 KPH is sensible safe and easy to use and I was only doing 119 kph !! -- sometimes in the UK it's not automatic to "Back convert" into MPH their speed limit is 70 mph / 112 kph -- in any case is about 7 kph over the speed limit (which on those sort of roads in those conditions is probably ridiculously low anyway) and was of NO danger to anyone.
Surely the police have better things to do than worry about this sort of stuff - worry about DANGEROUS drivers -- especially those using mobile phones !! rather than a few foreigners going a tiny fraction over the speed limit on a perfectly safe road.
Don't you hate jobsworths -- I might just go to the course to see the other drivers - might be an interesting 4 hrs !!!
UK must be Speed Camera capital of the universe though -- suppose it's an easy way of collecting revenue - especially from foreign drivers. !!
Cheers
