Does Microsoft recognize their font crispness problems?!

    Hi,
Screen Legibility is a big issue for me and I care so much about having the crispiest looking of my text on screen to the ultimate and I'm not really content with how Microsoft is implementing their font smoothing technology and I strongly see that it is much inferior to other OS's

My question is: Do the people at Microsoft recognize how inferior their font smoothing technology (especially in their latest OS which is Windows 8.1) compared to other Operating Systems (like OSX and some linux variants)? If yes, are they doing something about it in a future update for Windows 8.1? Or I'll be just waiting to infinity? I've been goggling about any sign or even a sliver of evidence about them working on this problem but nothing at all showed up to make me believe they acknowledge any problem(s) at all in the first place!
This is totally frustrating as the future of this OS seems to be miserable while I'm stuck with it since I use Mathematics software that I don't have equivalents for in other platforms like OS X - leaving alone the crazy unrealistic prices of MAC machines!!

That's a huge issue - Usually Clear-text automatically kicks in on the desktop side, but not so well in Metro.

I think Windows 8 and maybe even 8.1 share a big problem with IE for Metro having crappy text. Maybe it's just IE 11 for Metro. But there were lots of discussions about that in here, maybe there are some solutions in the Performance and Maintenance and/or Graphics Cards forums. Maybe they had an update that dealt with it, but it's been SO long since I used 8.1 I don't know. I love 8, I don't like 8.1 which is crazy I know heh.

It's true about MACOSX and Apple Devices, the graphics are always so beautiful, even on my Non-Retina iPad Mini. I have a G5 Dual Tower running OS X 10.5.8, and it looks awesome especially on my 22" Apple Cinematic Display.

Windows 7 did very well with graphics, the whole OS looked GOOD, I've used all kinds of Themes and iterations of Aero and I've never had the text be unreadable like the first time I opened what passes as the MSN site on IE11/Metro in 8.1. I'm glad they updated IE to 11 on Windows 7. I kind of wish I had the "Automatic Taskbar/Explorer Shell Colour" that Windows 8 has for Windows 7.

I still have a bunch of files I have to copy off my old HDD before I can re-install Windows 8 here, I prefer it to 7 in this machine cos it runs much better. I'm sure Windows 8.1 will run even better, but I only have one installation of 8.1 that's valid.

Have you investigated running the mathematics sw on Wine in Linux? I've been away from Linux for some time. I'm just messing around with mint16 now. So I don't really know if it has better font smoothing. Maybe it depends on the Window Manager. I'm not certain.

I've never been able to get Wine to work right, but I was using Ubuntu. It's the only Linux I know my way around in - Somewhat. :/ :\

It likely depends on the program. Agent news reader used to be very big. I was able to get it to work fine under Wine. I'm guessing the distro was Mandrake 9.1. Now it's called Mandriva but I heard the company went belly up. Too bad because that was a nice distro.

It's easier to fix Wine if you have Windows installed someplace. Being able to lob a Windows system DLL over the fence helps.

I could never get anything to work at all. yah a few DLLs would have helped.

I used to use Agent to post binaries of Music, a bunch of 320k MP3 files, or sometimes even ONE MP3 file, with a cue sheet, you can burn the CD. and the gaps for the songs get burnt. I would convert Vinyl to MP3, then create a Cue Sheet so a CD could be burnt. Did it with cassette releases too, the group I was with considered this Audio restoration, we've saved hundreds if not thousands of lost recordings.

Actually that's how Rhino Records got started - By selling strictly pirated and bootlegged records in the 70's and 80's.

Last I heard? They recovered the Audio for "Meet Me in St Louis" - The Original Print has a MAGNETIC strip right on the film - Usually, recovering from Tape means you have to stick it in an oven and BAKE it, then when it cools down you have one and one chance only to transfer it to digital!

These guys were audio experts in the 70's and 80's - It's why they were called on to do the transfer. They are legit now, but they WERE "the" Bootleg label of all time hahaha.
