:thumb: The next step would be to use BootCamp and actually run 8.1 on the MAC. I'd imagine you have an extra product code to use for that. I haven't come close to using all of mine. I'm getting really itchy to get my laptop out and start using my deck again. Looks like we might get a little more snow though. This is the first time in a long time that my deck actually has no snow on it, anywhere.

nice and sunny this morning ,I still got snow on my deck ,and 2 and 3 foot drifts all around the yard ,I kind of live in the woods with trees on 2 sides so the snow always builds up .we might still have snow to keep the cool-aid cold for the May long weekend like I remember from when I was a kid lol

I don't think I've ever bought a MAC anything. I had a Sansa MP3 player, replaced that with a Sony Walkman or what ever they call it. On the laptop/PC side of things everything we have now has an AMD processor in it. I've always bought AMD. I'm not big on buying recondisioned or refurbished hardware. My brother in law does it all the time. I don't think he's ever bought anything new come to think of it. I have nothing against doing it, its just not for me. I'm content to buy the next model or two down new over a used one. The only exception to that was my house and some of the cars I've bought. ;)

Years ago due to money constraints I bought a bare bones system from Tiger Direct. And a bunch of other stuff over the years. It's my backup spare PC now.
Asus M2N68-AM SE2 µATX Motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6GHz, 4GB 2GB X 2 Ultra PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory, 160 Gig Western Digital IDE Drive, case power supply etc.
Then I slowly upgraded the parts one by one and ended up with my current desktop PC
Asus M4N68T-M V2 µATX Motherboard, AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz, 8GB 4GB X 2 Kingston PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory, 1 TB Western Digital SATA-300 Drive.
I think that was all bought at Tiger Direct too. I buy some stuff from Newegg now that they ship to Canada.
Yeah, I hear you, used stuff isn't worth much these days. Moneys tight here too. That's why I go AMD. An AMD CPU versus an Intel of equal performance will almost always be cheaper. Until you get to the high performance anyway. AMD can't match Intel for performance at the ultra high end but I can't afford those CPU's anyway. I've never been disappointed with my CPU choices. I'm a brand loyal type of guy. AMD, ASUS, Logitech, HP.

Really, I updated an old MacBook from XP to 7, and it runs great. You just have to find the right Bootcamp package for 32 or 64 bit.

yeah my new one was barebones ,no dvd ,no hdd no windows ect ect ,i used video card from my old computer ,

My original one came with a hard drive, no video card, optical drive or OS though. It was a convenient way to get up and running at the time. And the price was right. It was nice knowing everything was compatible too.

Well, there are bunches of packages, so you have to find the one that goes with your Specific MacBook and the version of OSX that it on it, and three are 32 and 64 bit packages too. I could nto find a Bootcamp that would just install, so I extracted all the files out of it, and used all of the drivers I knew would work.

See, apple wants to HIDE exactly what hardware is in their systems, where usually they are the same chipsets as are in some PCs. The Bootcamp Drivers actually identify the chipsets, which is why they bundle the Bootcamp Installers into a self extracting RAR or 7z. So you try every archive format you have until something opens it, and then extract all the separate installers to your Macbook HD, then you can choose the ones that are in your system.

Plus, I use AIDA64 to identify what's in there, apple can hide what the ships ARE by removing the identifiers from the actual chips but not from a program that can READ em and tell you what they are. Once I get the Windows OS into it, I just treat it as a Driver Recovery job for an unfamiliar motherboard, AIDA64 tells you what the motherboard MFG is too.

The final trick is getting the Bootcamp Program installed into it, and that's the easy part.

Well, you may get lucky though, just try downloading soem bootcamp files.

Setting UP bootcamp, that's easy - Run the Bootcamp Tool on the Apple Side. You stick your Windows Install disk into the drive, then start Bootcamp. It'll create an NTFS partition, then reboot into the Windows 7/8 install startup. It's really easy.

The only hard thing is finding the right Bootcamp Driver Package.

When you are ready, let me know I'll get on Facetime with you and show you.
