Im working at an animal/wildlife sanctuary today. I'll post some more images of Australian wildlife later when I get home. I just wanted to introduce you to this fellow. It's as close as I am going to get, they said it's ok because it just ate 6 chickens.

Its actually an alligator but whats the diff ...

I actually stopped working last year, I focus on not for profit community services. But every so often I get asked to help my good friend, he is an Abseiling Structural technician. He goes where others can't, he fly's around the world building for major projects, he has built most of the roofs on stadiums (Olympic and other) over the past 6 years.

This day, were were asked to come in and asses some weld and the shade cloth on a very old Dome enclosure for a Not for profit Sanctuary here on the Gold Coast Australia called "Currumbin Sanctuary"

I didn't get much time to photograph all the wildlife, but I took a couple thinking that there may be some in here that would like to see whats around in Australia.

Here's a couple more from the sanctuary

My most favorite Sanctuary is here at my home. The wildlife I have is very beautiful, it can also be very dangerous. I have a couple of images taken in my backyard. I can't find some of them, like the Possums, pesky critters, "Red belly Black Snake" that can make you very ill if it bites, possibly fatal. And the Brown and Black Snakes that can kill you, I also have the Odd Scorpion and lots Red Back Spiders, Funnel Web Spiders etc. All that can be deadly.

Here are a couple of Photos that I can find.

Green Tree Snake that lives under my stairs and there's another that lives behind my letterbox, I also have one or two that live on my doorstep often :)

10.greenTree.jpg
10.greenTree3.jpg

Carpet Python, of which I probably have a few living in the roof. This one came down for a looksee. They always give me a startle.

10-backyard-CarpetPython.png

Koalas in my trees

10-backyard-Koala.png

Very noisy Black Cockatoos

11.BalckCockatoo.jpg

The Wallabies, little buggers that continuously eat all my plants

11.Wallaby.jpg

Goanna, that I had to chase out of my Lounge Room on this day. He is quite big. He can run many times faster than a human and can scale a tree just as fast. They have been known to run up a human lmao. I kept a couple of feet between us, he got a little angry at the end, turned and faced me. I of course bowed out.

11.Goanna4.jpg

11.Goanna3.jpg
11.Goanna2.jpg

My Lizard friends

11.Lizard.jpg

And the worst of enemies, beginning of this year, got just a few feet from the house. Gave us a scare

11.Fire.jpg

Anyways, I just thought I'd share a bit of the "Down Ubder" with you all.

In Australia mate, where everything can kill you, and probably will ;)

I don't need to go to the animal park. I have those critters right in my yard and my courtyard.

haha cool :thumb: Yes all the pictures after me abseiling are literally my backyard. I don't personally believe in animals in captivity, that includes cats and dogs, but I have nothing against it. Many of my friends have exotic pets. I personally just wait til they visit. And they do that every day, were extremely lucky

My guys have a good life. They have been around for years and they don't want to leave. My wife is scared of the big black snake, but he is harmless. He eats the Pygmy Rattlers that are more dangerous.

Koalas, always stoned on those gum leaves :dinesh:
I have to go back, apparently the Bird Avery is decrepit and needs a total overhaul. no birds in there as its so bad, so no trip to the Emergency room to have a bird removed from my face. Bummer.

let me explain something

Bird poop is, summarized and generalized, the same thing as any other animal group’s poop: the final stage of digestion, the getting rid of the garbage. Remarkably though, bird poop is very different from the poop we all know intimately – mammalian poop – in that it contains two fractions: a black part and a white part.

The reason behind the striking colour scheme is rather simple: birds have combined two digestive aspects into one channel that mammals have separated into two: excretion and defecation. And they have a different mode of excretion.

Here’s the chain of events: an animal eats and the food is being digested. Whatever content can be used is absorbed from within the digestive tract into the blood in the form of molecules. Whatever food content cannot be used is thrown out through defecation. The molecules that were absorbed from the food travel through the body in the blood system and then enter the cells. Here they are used for all sorts of things, e. g. to generate energy, build proteins, whatever. And of course, this means the molecules will be split and changed in many ways. This creates molecular waste products, in particular nitrogenous wastes. And this waste needs to go, pronto.
From the cell into the blood and through a filtering device (the kidneys in mammals, birds, and birders) to the outside world. That’s the clear, transparent pee in mammals. And the white mushy part in bird poop.

Once you understand this, bird poop isn't all that bad. I invite birds to poop on my head, it's scientifically beautiful.

I had to go back to the sanctuary to complete stage 2 of the dome. Took a couple more photos.

This is a Tree Kangaroo. Quite beautiful to watch. lovely coats of fur

treeRoo2.jpg

treeRoo1.jpg

This is a Tasmanian Devil. The photo I took had my fat thumb over the lens so I grabbed one of the internet, its the same devil.

tasdev.jpg

this is an Emu. Its trying to mate with my friend. These animals have a tendency to litterally jump on you. They need to be watched lol

emu.jpg

This is a Grey Kangaroo. There is a Giant Red Kangaroo, Ill try get a picture next time, it probably stands well over 7 feet tall when straight up, intimidating. This one is just a wee fella

roo.jpg

Now I figure most of you have established I am a little mad, just to prove it, I was dared to get in the pen with 3 prehistoric beasts. They're a little further away than this image looks, not by much though. These beasts can out run a man on take off without any effort.

First off I’d like to say > What a nice job, antspants! Risky, but nice. I must needs ask > A little mad? All I’ll state is that there’s no way I would get into a pen with those unless I just saw them all eat until their bellies are full. :D

I missed the scoop on the poop from last week. :p My very first job at the age of 13 for 3 years was on a farm where I learned a few things about poop. They had dairy cows, pigs, and chickens. After 3 years of me scooping poop I learned that chicken poop is worth more than cow or pig poop so far as a fertilizer due to the fact that it contains more nitrogen and potassium. Actually cow and pig urine is worth more than there poop due to the same chemicals, just not as concentrated, however their poop does have some value.

So, there you have the whole scoop on farm poop. :)

lol, the poop scoop.

Its not really my job but I help my mate out from time to time. Structural engineers that abseil off the side of high rises and put roofs on stadiums around the world. I retired ages ago. Nice work though when I get it.
This job entails repair of a Dome, in fact its the biggest bird Avery in the southern hemisphere. Its going to be a massive task.
