How do you perform your clean install and what is your best time?
- from clicking on 'Restart' to landing on the new Desktop.
(just curious)

Not sure my operating systems always get pushed out from System Center Configuration Manager and I crack on with something else... if that counts next time I will get my stop watch out for you ;)

Heh. Laying an image back on from USB 2.0 external used to take me about 40 minutes. Never got to try it with my USB 3.0 setup.

I don't think you can use a 3.0 hub, I tried it once, it gave me a prompt saying "You need to boot from a 2.0 hub", or something like that.
It's a 3.0 stick. Maybe because I created it on a 2.0 hub or maybe you just can't!? Who knows!

I had USB 3.0 addin card and dock on my desktop PCs. On this Laptop it has a USB 3.0 port. My USB 3.0 stick boots WinPE. I tested the boot. But not the restore, yet.

It varies by imaging program and machine I think. One machine Linux boot is fine with USB 3.0 support. Another machine I need WinPE. Only way to know for sure is to actually restore an image with fingers crossed.

A guy on another forum uses docking stations to image the OS and programs on an identical internal drive to what is in the PC. He doesn't copy an image on. He does R and R on the drive. So his time may be boot time plus 2 minutes depending how the drive is mounted. It probably has quick releases.

Are we talking about a repair install, clean install or an image recovery here?

Repair install - Don't know because I never had to do one
Clean install - Less than 30 minutes (exact time not remembered)
Image restore - About 2 minutes and 30 seconds

(clean install)
I'm truly unsure what you are trying to prove? Are you loading all external drivers, only the ones to get the Device Manager, "clean". I built a customized 'wim' that has all of my apps and drivers installed on it. So, when I install my OS, I get the OS as well as most of the apps that I use regularly (chrome, keepass, truecrypt, 7zip, imgburn, filezilla, putty, vlc, pdf creator, sumatra pdf, notepad++, malwarebytes, classic start, and evernote) all in one fell swoop. Do I win a cookie or something????
