    Anyone still running Vanilla 8?

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how many people have not updated to 8.1? And if not, why?

My laptop is running 8.1, yet due to OS instability caused by sound card drivers with 8.1 (and no 8.1 driver update available) my Desktop is still only vanilla 8.

However since I have several Stardock products installed - Start8, Modernmix, WindowBlinds, Decor8 and Fences 2 - I am more than content to stick with the vanilla version. (After Start8, Modernmix is probably the next most useful as it allows you to run Modern apps in resizeable Windows. The others are just aesthetic icings).

Overall I have an OS that looks and behaves like Windows 7, customized to the way I like my OS to be set up with the benefits of most of Win 8's under the hood improvements. So far, I have not encountered any barriers being stuck with Vanilla 8.

So, is anyone else sticking/stuck with the Vanilla version of Win 8? And if you are what is your reason/rationale?

EDIT: Just had a look and a 8.1 beta driver was released a week or so ago for my card. I've decided I'm still sticking with the Vanilla version though)

Yes, my work laptop is still on Windows 8, my wife's home laptop is still on Windows 8, and my kids laptop that we got for Christmas is still on Windows 8. My home desktop is still running Windows 7, as I could not justify spending money to upgrade it to Windows 8.

My reason thus far for not upgrading? Windows 8 is working perfectly fine, nothing is broken that I need to work and I see no sense in potentially breaking anything to get on the latest version.

I do have machines at work on Windows 8.1 for testing, and I've run 8.1 in a VM, so I know what it has to offer...it's just not advantageous enough to change machines which are currently running flawlessly.

I, too, know many that are still running 8. Why? They have it set up to their needs and do not want to run the risk of crashing their system. I am running a basically naked 8.1, because I am waiting on 9. The less on your system, the easier the upgrade.

I did not update my tablet due to many problems have had on that unit. I did not update my All in One either. I lost some function when going from 7 to 8 and have read of problems going to 8.1 on it so why bother. May for 8.1 if I ever have to redo a drive but not betting on it.

Exactly. If it's working - why change it for little to no benefit.

Especially if you believe the update might be of detriment.

I though if you do not upgrade you will no longer be able to get security updates

At some point, they will stop supplying updates to Windows 8.0, and instead require that you are on a minimum of Windows 8.1. In other news, they just recently stopped updating Windows XP!.

Updates will potentially become a serious issue at some point, but I'm confident that by that time arrives - any remaining hardware/software issues that would affect me should have been rectified.

I can also easily live without the changes in the upcoming Update 1 as I have quite a few of the intended UI changes in place already and I don't really use the modern side.

    Basically - no rush
