New graphics card, mad scientist to install!

Haha I am a happy camper at the moment. I received my new video card in specs, an ASUS HD 7790.

When I first tried to fit it, there were about 4 obstacles and there simply was no way.

So, not one to be discouraged, I began by ripping apart the rear of the case with metal cutters I have. That took a while. I also removed the motherboard peripheral cover which needed to be done.

Cool. Still not even close to going because the vga port on the motherboard prevented the card from installation, physically.

Not a problem. I cut the vga port off of the motherboard with the metal cutters again, then proceeded to make sure none of the cut pins were touching each other. Done.

Then, the cpu heatsink lower right screw was preventing the card from fitting, still. Not a problem. Removed that screw, heat sink is still on flush and well, temps are good, and card is installed.

Latest driver installed, and systems are all go 100%.

My mom was laughing at me the whole time, knowing how crazy it is doing what I was doing. She knows I know a thing or two, and while she was watching me, even she was a skeptical as can be.

All in all, pat on the back to myself for a good job that 99% of people will not even think to want to try.

Off to check some games...once I see if anyone needs some answers in threads I've been helping in.

:)

Oh yeah, I had to remove the rear bracket from the card, too. lol

I have a 1080p tv downstairs that I can connect the machine to via HDMI - now to maybe get a better monitor than the 1600x900 I currently have though. Maybe soon, who knows?

I did a fresh format and install of Windows 8 64 Bit Pro. Sorry but I couldn't live without a start button so I have installed the Start8 start menu which is great. I try sometimes not to use it but find metro frustrating to find programs as I have many. I will use Metro for apps only and desktop of serious computing.
haha thanks dude. :)

Crysis 3 suggested all highest settings and plays great, if you can believe that - with my Pentium D 3.0 GHz stock speed, no less.

I can overclock the CPU with SetFSB a little bit and stable still. I've tested it out the past few days.

I have the R9 270X which I THINK is the 7780 or 7850... Either way, I have overclocking potential so it makes it real nice... and toasty. :geek:

Very beefy card.

No dude. That card is the latest generation from AMD. It's a beast.

I REALLLLLLLLLY like ASUS' GPU Tweak software that I have just learned about and started using because of my new card.

See if it works for you. I think it will, easily.

Your card info: AMD Radeon? R9 Series Graphics

Yeah, the R9 series are kind of the "latest" generation from AMD, but it's basically on par almost as to yours or I think it was the 7850. The main difference I can note off the bat is native DirectX 11.2 support, and maybe some performance tweaks to the chip. But basically, it's similar. Even the pic you posted looks IDENTICAL to mine. Seriously.

Although I do want to remove the fan heatsink and replace it with a watercooling block when I decide on what radiator size I want for my system. Mining cryptocurrency basically turns my card into a space heater.

Bitcoin, huh? Cool!

Watercooling? Cool!

Let us see pictures if that is ever realized. (Or you know about the internet: "It did not happen!")

Does the mining benefits outweigh electrical costs, with your current hardware setup, do you know? Just curious about it, like lots of other computer stuff I'm unsure about.

Dogecoin! Mining profitability is WAY higher than Bitcoin. It's at the point where if you don't have at least three AMD GPUs with a good mining pool or a decent ASIC miner; otherwise it's like fishing in the ocean with a shotgun with Bitcoin.

Watercooling shall be done as temps are too high for my comfort. I'd like to not melt my system. I don't know if I need/want a three 120mm radiator (if I can even fit one) or settle with a two 120mm one but I'd like to expand out my system GPU wise. Probably will stick with three since I have an AMD FX 8320 and if I had two R9 270s...yeah, I'd need to watercool that sucker. Yep, I know, pics or it didn't happen... ;)

Ummm.... I honestly don't know if the electrical costs are outweighed by profit. I'll see when the power bill comes in! :D All I know is that I've mined over 10,000 Dogecoins a day sooner than I thought. Instead of 10 days, it was about six? Altogether, it equates to about 20ish dollars but the price of Doge has gone down a tad, which isn't all that bad as it means I can buy more of it soon. I'm trying to mine as much as I can before the 14th next month when the mining reward halves from 500,000 to 250,000 Dogecoins per block.
