Oh jeez, I bought an Apple product

The only redeeming point is that the purchase isn't actually for me, but rather my wife for Christmas.

She is getting an IPad Air 32gb. I had to buy 4 Apple iPad airs and iPad minis for work this week. I brought home one of each and the wife tried them both for awhile and was really interested in the full size Air. She works in a special needs school and the "best" apps for this purpose are iPad apps. She will be surprised as she has no idea at all that I would get one of these for her. Now, just gotta go find some money.

I am not an Apple fan but I replaced a crappy Samsung Galaxy S with an iPhone 5. It may not be the glitziest but it works and doesn't crap out and have to have the battery removed to reset at least weekly like the Samsung.

In my humble opinion, you're either a "content creator" or a "content consumer". If you're a "content consumer", then Apple or other tablets will be sufficient. If you're creating content (music, videos, photography, etc...), then you need a "real" PC...

I'm both a "consumer" and a "creator" at different times so I have both. A tablet is much more portable than a "real" PC so I can take it with me and "consume" to my heart's content. When I need to "create", I sit down at my computer.

    This exactly.
I always said I wouldn't get an apple product besides my iPod.
Got sick of Android's frankenstein mix of OS's depending on what phone it's on. Shouldn't have to root it and install a rom just to get the thing to work like it should. So, after having 4 droids over the years, I broke down and got an iPhone, mostly based on the sale price I got it for.
What I do like about the iPhone (I have a 4, no need for the 5) is that it just works. Don't have to worry about as many app issues and without all of the extra carrier supplied junk on it, it runs perfectly fine.

I would like an iPad mini, but can't justify the price.

Gave her the iPad today, she was very surprised. She's now sitting on the couch having a blast with it. She promised some after hours entertainment tonight....I think because it was such a nice gift and one she was not expecting.
