Thanks for the info. H'mmmm, it looks like if I want to upgrade, it will cost me. Maybe I will just stay with Windows 8 then, until I upgrade my system.

3.61 GB is the size of the full ISO, downloading from Windows Store only costs 2.4~ish GB.

I've just noticed something and hope it's really back, animations on the Bing picture of the day. I used to love those when they happened on Windows 7 but of course had Aero and such on there but it wasn't on 8.

I've just seen the photo for today and it's a leaf frog and mushrooms and the frog is breathing and his throat is moving, yippee.

Besides a few minor bugs that I'm sure will eventually work out with updates, I'm absolutely thrilled with 8.1. The best of both worlds IMO.

My upgrade via the Store app went absolutely and surprisingly flawless. Post #113: https://www.eightforums.com/general-s...se-only-3.html

I Have Bing Desktop with daily pics, which I've also have configured as my Start Screen background as well. I also use Bing as my home page in IE11 to see the animated pics. I agree > The pics are great!

I'm a bit confused, Joan (which isn't too difficult!) > I had the animated pics in 8 with IE10. You did not? Are you saying you had animated pics on your desktop with 7?

    First impressions of 8.1 Pro

    First, my computer details:

I downloaded 8.1 from the store.

It took about 2 or 3 hours to complete download & get started.
( I fell asleep so time is approximate )

    Things went smoothly.

    I updated 5 drivers first.
I got 2 Windows updates next & changed various trivial settings.

So far I am pleased with 8.1.
It was a little slow at first but it is getting quicker the more I use it.

I like the new Settings (cogwheel button in charms bar).

One thing I should mention is, I lost nothing in the process of installing.
All files & programs & folders, etc. are still with me.
    (and working)

I used my Microsoft account in the process.
My original 8 Pro Product Key stayed the same on 8.1.

If Win 9 is free too, I might try it.

    Hi there
especially after updates (fixed issue with Silverlight and Sky Go) better in EVERY WAY.

Still have ONE issue -- can't get Icelandic LIP -- this was available even in Windows 8 !!!. Keyboard support fine and Office 2010 Language pack still working.

Minor bug --things like GOOGLE SEARCH- after you go to a site from a query you need to press the back button TWICE to get back to the query -- same on TPB (naughty naughty !! not waiting till year 2300 to get some decent TV shows !!) but not all web sites.

    Cheers

We just got our first W8 machine... a laptop... and have a 2nd one coming. So it's time for me to learn something about this new (to me) OS. I'm hardly new to Windows... coming from DOS/OS2 Warp/Win3.x/Win95/Win98/Win2k/WinXP/Vista/W7 and have been a member of the SevenForums for a good while. I...
Black Friday provided me with the opportunity to upgrade to a more powerful computer with Windows 8. Like others, I was more than a little peeved and frustrated by the disappearance of the "Start" icon. After several days of thrashing about, unseemly cussing, and menacingly manhandling what...

When I came across Microsoft's offer of downloading this new version of Windows for £24.00, I thought, what's the catch? Was there a catch? seems far too cheap a price for Microsoft, Well after installing and testing and every day usage, yes there clearly was a catch, and it is simply this, we have...

I upgrade on of my older lap tops to Windows 8. It's a pretty beefy computer. The upgrade went well. But I do not like this new version and will not upgrade any of my other computers until Microsoft fixes many small problems. Problems I have encountered: 1) The shut down button was...
As a bunch of us just got the retail Win8 Pro version off of TechNet, good time to start a discussion of what actually is there vs. what was rumored. 1. Aero IS gone. 2. Gadgets ARE gone. 3. Windows store has a lot more stuff. I don't see anything that smacks of payment yet. 4. As rumored,...
I installed Windows 8 release preview a few days ago and here are my impressions. First, the good: 1) I like some of the Metro apps, like Internet Explorer and msnbc news. 2) Windows 8 is slightly faster than Windows 7. Now, the bad:
Solved First Impressions in General Support
Well, finally installed Win 8 dev. I tried to install the 64-bit, but it stopped uncompressing at 98 or 99% - several tries. Of course the iso might have been corrupt. I checked online forums and saw others had mentioned this problem. So I humbly installed the 32-bit OS. Worked first time. ...
