Not sure whether an SSD for games will buy you a lot.

Thanks Big Guy for the info. I was reading up on these with the thought of purchasing one. With this new information I think I will go with just buying another Intel SSD.

I've gotten in the habit of including SSDs in my quotes to myself. Still pretty spendy but no one said the ultimate machine would be "affordable"

A SSD is the best investment you can make to boost overall performance. And given that the prices for SSDs are really low at this time, you would be hard pressed to find any other PC component that can give you a similar boot in performance.

Exceptions are, of course, very CPU intensive tasks like video encoding or surfing the net. Those tasks are more dependent on CPU power or network speed respectively.

Boot is not my major concern.

Absolutely it will gain you a lot. Your games will load and launch almost instantly. It's the same benefit that you have running any application from an SSD. Sure, your games won't run any faster once in the game....but MS Word doesn't improve either once it's launched and running.

Games are the biggest improvement area that I see with an SSD. Aside from an OS boot, it's the next largest load that I have. It's just a shame that games are so large and take up so much space because they can eat up an SSD really fast.

But without a doubt, if you are a gamer, get an SSD large enough to run games...you WANT them on your SSD.

SSD's are now cheap enough to buy a moderatly good one for a good price!

So I agree with the poll!
