I hope they are able to make all of the systems ordered! Have you bought one, you will HAVE to post images of it when you get it!

If I didn't have to spend that much to fix my truck, I'd buy one of the mroe expensive ones!

Over $5m now.

Mike Mace was saying recently he thought there was a space for a new kind of pc. He didn't think any of the usual suspects would be up for it. He reckoned a new entrant/startup was a possibility. The problem is the massive funding required.

Now here is Shutters really going for it. Inspiring.

Looks like they refunded the 59 people who got left out of the Edge. I'd love one of these, but simply, I can't ever afford one. The reason why I could ever afford an iPhone 4 and then a 4S was that ATT and then Sprint paid for most of it so I would get a 2 year contract. If Ubuntu could get these tied in to a carrier that would pay most of the cost of it, a LOT of people might get these.

This might be exactly what the handheld device market needs, and there is no question that it looks great, and it appears to be durable like an iPhone 4S/5

Ubuntu Edge has broken the world record.

Interesting to see who is backing it:

Stephen Fry

The more variation and choice in form factors, operating systems, the more innovation in terms of your device and its response to the environment, the better. The more open hardware and software APIs that allow for medical, military, charitable, mercantile, individual, artistic and social interaction for pleasure, gain, reward and the furthering of mankind’s destiny, the better.

Boo to monopolies. Hurrah for competition and innovation.

New article :
The phone plugs into a monitor and the software allows you to continue tasks like working on an Excel spreadsheet, all powered by the phone's processor. The demo I saw required the phone to be plugged in via an HDMI cable, but in theory it could be done wirelessly.

Best of all, you can do phone stuff, without unplugging the phone, right there on the big screen. A call comes in and you see the call on the monitor and answer over speakerphone. A text comes in, and you can reply in an IM-style window on the monitor without interruption, instead of breaking off to pull out your phone and get busy with your thumbs.
