+1 PC sold and +1 copy of Windows 8

For Mothers Day, I decided to purchase a new laptop for my wife to replace her aging HP laptop running Windows Vista. So, I ticked up sales of both Windows and a standard laptop by 1.

Went with a Samsung Series 7 Ultrabook. Specs are about the same as the Surface Pro. As was the cost. The 13.3" 1920x1080 screen is nice. The 128GB SSD will be sufficient as she doesn't store much of anything on her laptop. We have a file server for our files and she doesn't play anything but online games and doesn't run much software at all.

One thing I liked in particular on this particular Ultrabook is the fact that the back is easily removable and the RAM and the mSATA SSD are upgradeable. And the battery can be changed once the back is off too.

Did you +1 start menu replacement as well?

Pretty nice Mother's day gift on your behalf!

Yes, purchased another copy of Start8 for her, set it up just like my work laptop. When you click the start button you get a start menu, when you click on the Windows key on the keyboard you get the start screen. So, she can quickly and easily have whatever she wants.

For her, she didn't care that much about having a start menu, but she wanted to boot straight to the desktop.
