Google glasses... I'm uncomfortable with it already

I don't want my every move to be recorded and posted on youtube to be judged. There's a reason I don't have a facebook account. If you walk into my house, you will find perhaps 4 photos of me. There's no video of me doing anything. Unlike most people out there, I absolutely do not want to be famous. I don't want people judging every aspect of my life.

What do you guys think? Are you comfortable being around someone with google glasses knowing that he might be recording you?

    No.

    It is ghastly.

    Good topic.

It's bad enough that governments record pics and vids, but I think it to be a necessity for public safety. It's modern technology substituting for human labor. On the other hand, recording of a public official on duty without their consent is ok, but people going around recording other people in public without consent is by no means ok IMO. It's invasion of one's "total private being". Being present in public doesn't necessarily give consent of "total private being". With this recording device or similar device in crowded circumstances it's highly improbable that one can get everyone's consent.

By "total private being" I mean e.g. that if a total stranger were to ask me a question in public I have the right not to answer or talk at all. I don't have to answer anyone unless it's a public official that has proper credentials and proper motive. Otherwise it's invasion of one's "total private being". No one needs to know my name, address, race, sex, why I'm present, and the like. It's private information. The same with my image or images of my actions. "I own the data of my presence", if you will, no one else unless I give consent.

Keep in mind the "Good Samaritan" principal. If one asks or talks to me with good intentions for the safety of themselves or others, then I have a responsibility to answer to the best of my ability in order to aid.

I think Google's motive with these devices as with other devices is to record data to put up for sale. I think they're going to run into big legal problems with them as they have in other incidences such as recording IP addresses and locations without consent.

I think your hint of someone recording someone without consent then posting it on public video site without consent will lead to a bunch of lawsuits. I think it's inevitable.

Then what's more is that people buy these devices and then use Google's services in order for them to receive free data. Rather silly to me.

google glasses I find is really just a gimmicky thing. It offers no real tangible benefits that are worth over 1,000 dollars just to take pictures with a blink of an eye. If I wanted a smartphone in front of my face, I would have it there already like every other socially awkward persons who are absorbed by a 3.5 inch screen.

You can pick up a mini spy cam and attach it anywhere on your person for less than $10 to accomplish the same thing now. The google glass will stand out like a soar thumb initially and it will be quite a long time before they evolve to a point that we have to begin worrying about our privacy from google glass.

Perhaps wearing a tin foil hat will interfere with the recording signal?

Haven't you been keeping up with tech news? Developers already came out with an app for it to allow instant upload onto the internet.

I know that you can buy mini cameras to put on your person already. But these things are not mainstream. Look sometimes your friends can unintentionally harm you without you knowing. Years ago, I lost a job because my friend uploaded a questionable photo of me on her facebook and tagged me. I had an FB account just for the sake of having it. I never really used it, so I didn't know she did that. She thought it was funny. When I found out that photo cost me a job, I deleted my FB account and never went back.

The point is people often emphasize the kinds of photos and info you put up on the internet and how it might harm you. Rarely do people ever think that pictures and info that others put up can harm you as well. Aside from my example, look at what happened with the Adria Richards case? A tweet cost 2 people's livelihoods, one of which had 2 small children and the other had a $5k/month apartment to keep up.

I'm just saying. I know that mini cameras are out there. But there haven't been much incentive for people to use them. If google glass goes mainstream, stupid people like my good friend will be ruining other people's lives without knowing it. Hey, look, so-and-so is having fun at this private party. Let's take a picture of him and plaster it on my very public facebook account.

Lol! If this gets to be popular, I'll be wearing a different mask for each day of the week when in public. I'll have to take it off when getting gas or entering a store, for otherwise the attendants will think I'm there to rob them.

The only ones that I can think of that this technology will aid are the blind for getting directions.

Ive never even thought about it til now, but NO im the same way, i like my privacy.
I wonder how thats gonna work in Maryland, we have a very strong wiretapping law, and they consider any voice recording device as wiretapping...

Don't get me wrong. I don't think everyone who will have a google glasses will be out looking to get people fired or ruin people's lives. That said, there are always numbskulls like Adria Richards and my friend (the one that got me to lose my job over a picture). There are always insensitive people out there who just don't understand there are real life consequences to people. In the case of my friend, she honestly did not mean to get me to lose my job. The picture in question was of questionable nature. I seriously thought she had more common sense than posting something like that out for everyone to see, especially in this day and age when employers constantly scour online sources for info on their employees.

And look at Adria Richards. That woman was equipped with a phone and she used it to get a father of 2 fired. Imagine someone like her, a hypersensitive hypocrite, having the means to record everything she saw and heard. Imagine how much more damage such hypersensitivity could have if equipped with google glass.

The more I think about this, the more uncomfortable I feel.
