Hi there
Anybody installed the service pack for Windows 2012 server yet.
I'd love to know if the problem of No Video from web sites has been fixed yet.

I know on a server this isn't the most important feature - and with W2012 server it can be run virtually without a GUI - but if you've installed the "Desktop Feature" which makes it look more like a Desktop OS then I'd be curious in seeing whether the video problem has been fixed and whether the browser is now IE 11 or still IE 10.

The original Video problem was caused by the server browser not being able to either install FLASH (message saying Flash was already installed) or incompatible flash code.

(BTW what is totally BONKERS for a server is that if you install the Desktop experience part the Start screen also displays the METRO GUI. I wonder what sort of Imbecillic brain came up with that idea -- ON A SERVER !!! I hope Ms never lets that particular design team within 2KM of any server ever again).

I'll probably download from TechNet to try it myself eventually but if someone has already tested this I'd be greatful -- saves a download and a bit of messing around.

I need to start thinking about replacing my W2003 server and I do use the web on it from time to time. W2008 server was a bit of a disaster - nothing worked properly but W2012 seemed a lot better the last time I tried apart from the Video problem.

Cheers
jimbo

Jimbo,

Are you sure about the service pack availability for server 2012? I can find an SP1 for SQL 2012 and I can find an SP1 for System Center 2012...but I'm having trouble locating anything for straight up Server 2012.

Jimbo, I just installed Server 2012 under VMWare workstation 8.x...this was WITHOUT any service pack or updates. This is under IE10. And by default, it launches the classic desktop version of IE....which I am sure you know.

I enabled the "desktop experience" feature from the "User Interfaces and Infrastructure" section, the system rebooted twice. I also went into Server Manager and shut off IE Enhanced Security Configuration.

When I tried to install vmware tools in this VM, the screen went black and nothing happened. I had to
  1. Power off the VM
  2. Set Display settings of VM to "Accelerate 3D graphics".
  3. Reinstall the vmware tools.

I can play videos from youtube.com just fine. No errors, prompts or otherwise.
