Hi there
BBC News - Samsung unveils 6.3in Galaxy Mega smartphone

I think THIS might kill any market for 7 inch tablets -- however as a PHONE I think it's just a tad too bog -- looks a bit stupid like those people with the 7 inch phablets making phone calls in a crowded place.

My Ideal Max size for a phone is the new Samsung 4 (or the ever so slightly smaller Galaxy IIIs).

I wonder if Samsung have backed the wrong horse here -- the company has been pretty shrewd in the past but c'mon Peeps : Would you really use a 7 inch monster as a mobile phone. !!!!

I wonder if a W8 version of this will appear too.

Cheers

Will people want a phone and a 7in tablet?

Why not put calling ability on the 7 in tablet as well.

Then you have it covered.

It makes it unlikely the same customer will buy both.

You don't smack a 7" tablet into your face to make calls. That's the job of the little bluetooth handsfree accessory that you plug into your ear.

If enthusiasts get what they want, eventually we will all have 10" smartphones and 3.5" tablets.

It gets to the point where you should just get an el cheapo phone and a tablet with 3G.

This would be great if you were at your house near the tablet all the time. If you are out and about though, putting a 7" tablet into your pocket could get awkward. I have a nexus 7 and I know I wouldn't want to carry that around everywhere I went.

Yeah. That would be the problem. Lugging a 7" phone. But the only solution there is just sticking it in a backpack with bluetooth on all the time. I hope this new samsung phone is "true handsfree" just like the Blueant handsfree devices. You just talk thru your bluetooth earpiece to dial or send messages without pressing/typing anything on the device itself. I don't carry my Nexus 7 too. It's a bathroom mainstay... hahaha....

I'm up for a phone, but buying outright this time. I'll look into this. Seems it might be ideal. Looking for a Windows phone though.

I need to get something else mobile. Mostly viewing blueprints and estimating spreadsheets. A seven inch or even a ten inch tablet/pad (Surface) would be too small for me. I don't want a lappy. A hybrid at 13 to 15 may be ideal.

Thanks for posting the article. :)

I just got the wife the Nexus 4 (Jelly Bean 4.2.2) straight up....moving to ST (straight talk)....before warned, if you guys go this route check your area for ST compatibility....seems the only provider currently is T-Mobile...which is not available in my area with ST. ATT pulled all their sim cards from ST....so check thoroughly as to what's available. I had to buy a ATT sim card off Amazon.com for $50....supply and demand sucks. But the damn phone Rocks...very fast.
