Had displeasure of fixing a fan issue on an HP DV4-1225dx

So, coworker was having a problem with his wife's HP Pavilion DV4-1225dx overheating. He asked if I could take it apart and clean out his fan and heatsink.

Little did I know that I would have to completely disassemble the whole entire unit in order to actually get to the fan. Whoever designed that laptop needs to be shot in the face.

About 50 screws, had to take out battery, wifi card, modem, hard drive, DVD drive, had to remove keyboard, bezel, speakers, display, about 5 ribbon cables, and had to remove the motherboard.

3 screws on a Dell Latitude, 5 minute job. About 90 minutes to tear apart and rebuild the HP. What a load of crap.

Wow, and I thought tearing apart my fathers old Gateway P-7805-U FX laptop was bad.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

"Whoever designed that laptop needs to be shot in the face." Love that!

This is basically true with HP's laptops, they don't f-word around. Enterprise geared laptops are MUCH easier to disassemble, as is the Dell Latitude. I once had the pleasure of doing such on an elder IMB ThinkPad, took about a dozen or so screws and popping off the chassis pieces. That was all. The consumer class laptop isn't the same. The best I've seen though that are simple are usually ASUS laptops, LOVE THEM!! OOHH!! One K series laptop had two screws to take off, slide the back panel off and you have EVERYTHING! Also, netbooks are real easy to tear down.

I believe I've torn down a couple of those DV4 Pavilions recently. Once you do it, it's actually just a cake walk. You need to know the process of what screws to take off and what pieces to take off.

But this is what I HATE, with utmost PASSION, is how EVERY DAMNED laptop these days NO NOT HAVE A FRICKIN CPU ACCESS PANEL!!! MY GOD! They have one for the RAM and hard drive, but not the heatsink! Now THAT deserves a shot to the face! God! You have to tear down the whole bloody thing just to get to the freaking heatsink and fan! Really right now?!

I faced that with an old HP Pavilion 2420. Insane !

Having screws of different lengths is always fun. Hiding some of them under a sticker or the rubber feet makes it interesting too.
