That will be great for the 90% of the market, whose installed software is 95% desktop apps.

    Windows 8.1 'Ultimate' RTM 64 bit (Pro/WMC).

Nothing there to interest me, really. I'd only consider it if it's free, or if there are some serious improvements to the desktop side of things.
At NO time in that video did I see him actually DO anything, it's all content-consumption and that bloody cloud. That's not how or why I use computers.
Sadly, it's looking more and more like Win 7/8 will be my last Microsoft OSes.
That Mint VM I've been playing with is starting to look very appealing compared to Blue.

    Wenda.

I agree. There was nothing for me as a PC user. Maybe they fix some bugs. But since I hardly ever use Windows 8, even that does not really matter to me.

3rd party program to relieve the annoyances somewhat:

Looks like you have FastStone Capture. Did you ever try Jing - it's 1 notch above FSC. But the ultimate is Shutter: Mint Mate - Screenshots and Snips - YouTube

Thank you for taking the time explaining Wolfgang!

That first screen capturer it's just like the one built in GIMP (this is mostly UI but more basic).

PrintScreen button also works in Mint.

What is the theme named? Looks familiar.

Floppy Drive... That's a good one! Go to VMware BIOS (press ESC on boot but you need to press once and also be very fast) and disable it, then you don't see that anymore.

Yeah, the 'Take screenshot' program is pretty basic. But the shutter program is nifty. And yes, the Prt Screen button works, even in my virtual partition.

    This is my theme:

    Thanks.

Custom can be anything, is always the latest, not saved theme.

If you really like some settings (colors, font sizes) then you may better save that.

I think I used 'Aurora', but I don't really remember. They are so easy to change. No reason to keep track of them.

FINALLY! The Desktop is the whole reason why Windows gets flack is due to the win32 code of the Desktop that can end up causing issues down the road. The WinRT app model prevents that.
WinRT is still 32bit (aware) even if it's no win32 code AND it's pretty new code that will more likely contain new bugs. That's the main reason why the desktop is more stable because it has been through many iterations and fixes, Metro just began the cycle: I hope all goes well since I'm also curious on the new changes so far.

    Cheers

Actually, WinRT is more of modern layer to enable modern features, design, and sensors on top of Win32 code. It would be difficult to redo the whole coding aspect and keep it stable with everything else. So there is just new plumbing in the old building pretty much. But yeah, that is partly why WinRT is still a tad buggy, but that generally depends on the app developer and how well they coded in the new form.
