The Computer World 25 Years Ago

Came across an old article from 25 years ago (1988) about the Commodore Amiga, so though I'd share. $995 for the Amiga A500, with 512k RAM, 4096 colour monitor and a 800k 3.5" floppy.

It got me thinking though, I'm surprised we don't see lots of old Amiga/Atari/Sinclair computer games adapted to play on the web.

I still have my 1MB A500, with an extra external disk drive. No HDD, unfortunately.

And unfortunately, most of the disks have deteriorated to the point of unusability.

Can you even GET the correct disks any more?

The machine itself still performs faultlessly, and seems to be virtually un-killable.

As well, I still have my fully-optioned (but no HDD) C64, which also still runs well.

    Wenda.

1MB of RAM, now that's just greedy. IIRC, to upgrade the RAM it was just a case of removing a cover underneath and slotting it in.

I never thought about the disks deteriorating, otherwise I imagine it would just be a case of plugging it into the co-ax connecter of the TV and off you go.

With a boot-up time that is probably still faster than Windows 8 with SSD!
