Smart phones getting smarter.

Could be a little pricey but no mention of battery life, looks good otherwise when they get here I might get one. All the smart phones I have used were not a good phone so have resisted getting one. I will not get a fruit company item due to the walled garden.

Some multi core processor has one low power core. During idle or reading will use only this core for minimum battery consumption. Most of the time other cores just sleep.

I find that to be real superfluous, what the bloody hell are people doing on these phones that even require a quad core let along two of them?! Seriously right now, I'd rather have an octocore chip in my PC than my phone!

I guess samsung must be gearing up for android 5 or something....

They have their own os coming.

Probably find an ubuntu variant will run like a dream. Full blown desktop os on a phone. There ya go. No extra cost.

If these things are getting so good, what is the point of a 7 in tablet.

Right, Ubuntu is pushing towards the tablets. They are already making a lot of noises. The first test versions did not do that well. I am not sure whether Ubuntu Unity UI is something that people are waiting for. But I have not seen the real product yet. So I reserve my judgement.

Samsung is reportedly going to be releasing their tizen OS soon this year...

But I don't the fact that a quad core smartphone is going to do anything better. A five inch screen is by far too big for one hand use, unless if it's made tall and skinny. I have pretty big hands, but a 4.5 inch screen is the cap for me for using a phone one handed.

There really isn't a point for that 7 inch phablets anymore at that point then, two inches of screen more, big deal. My main point is that there just simply isn't a need whatsoever for that CPU power, AT ALL. You're not running Photoshop on it, why would you? It's absurd to do so. You wouldn't want to use that over a PC, AT ALL. The screen simply isn't large enough, the form factor isn't designed for that.

Seems like a gimmicky marketing feature than anything.

You forget that a 7" screen is twice as big as a 5" screen - simple math.

Yes, it is bigger.

Not sure it will be that important to a lot of buyers. It will be important to some of course.

If they can manage with a phone - then why buy a tablet as well.

Maybe you can extend the screen - flip out to double the size - or this flexible stuff Apple is working with looks like a goer.

There is a double size screen on a Sony phone , it flips out and the screen is on both sides - forgot the model name.

Did I have a really good St. Patty's day or how does two inches more equate to 10 inches?

I can't even being to understand how 7 inches is enough for a tablet of any kind. It's too small for my tastes. A smartphone can be perfectly fine for that phablet's use. I see no benefit, literally.

The ASUS Padfone has an android smartphone that tucks into an tablet sized screen that I believe is ran by the phone.

There is also a company, I forget who, but they are literally building a Windows 8 Phone, not Windows Phone mind you, but a Windows RT smartphone. Now THAT, has interesting potential.
