Macrium Reflect Win PE 4 screen resolution

I'm trying to image a computer running Windows 8. It's an Acer All in One computer. it has an Intel HD4000 graphics chip, a 23" 1920x1080 display. However, when I launch the EUFI Win PE media (created by Macrium), when I get into the app, it doesn't seem that I can resize the Macrium "Image disk" window. The problem is that the Next button is at the bottom, behind or below the taskbar, and I am unable to resize the screen at all to actually perform the backup

I have the arrows like I can, but alas I cannot.

Any ideas.

Not getting that in my pe builds - I am using windows explorer - not the macrium taskbar thing.

Macrium has the annoying habit of setting screen res , ( from memory, I think it does 1064x768 ) which may not be helping.

Perhaps the way round it is to pop a screen res program in there - fire up macrium , then change the res. Bit of a faff.

I'm just getting really pissed about this Windows 8 crap. I cannot get Aomei to boot in UEFI and thus my restores aren't working. I can get UEFI support with Macrium, but I cannot see the damn screen in order to hit the Next button.

So, right now at work, i have 0 ability to image and restore a Windows 8 machine which is not bootable.

LOL, I know the feeling.

It took me a while to get around some of the irritations, I may be able to lend a hand as I have already put in the effort.

I can set resolution via an unattend.xml file. However, I am unsure how to insert that file and build the WinPE from within Macrium Reflect and get it to work.

That is not going to work - when macrium starts, it will change the res.

I have something which can make it for you. Not very fancy, but it should allow both Macrium and Aomei to work in pe4 and support uefi/secure boot.

Otherwise, you can use my hand built pe4.

I have a similar issue for acronis and creative and a few others because my screen dpi is set to 200%.
In order to use these programs without issue, I have to set my dpi to the default or less than 200%.
Then when finished, I reset my dpi back to 200% and bold the text.
It is easier on my eyes using a 37" hdtv 1080p pc monitor.

I don't know what Aomei is but the only way to boot into UEFI when using fast boot on an Asrock board is to use the Asrock UEFI boot to bios program. (unless you clear the cmos and reset).
Probably not related to your issues.

Please, I would love whatever you can provide.

I prefer to use Aomei because it's free for commercial use. But thus far, I cannot get it's PE to boot in UEFI mode and it's screwing up my restores I think.

Macrium is working ok on my lapotp (can see full screen), but it doesn't see my hard drives (FML...I must need a driver for that).


So, let's focus on getting Aomei running in UEFI mode from a USB key. Thank you in advance.

I think there is an error in aomei pe builder.

If I can confirm that, I will let them know.

They are working on doing something with their partition manager as well - have corresponded a bit with them on that.

I just installed Macrium (four PC license version) and created the WinPE rescue discs. I notice it profiles the hardware when creating it. I made separate WinPE/Macrium rescue discs, for my dual boot Win7/Win 8 system and a separate rescue disc for a second PC with different hardware. From what I remember the WinPE for the Win 7 system was V3 and the WinPE for the Win 8 systems was V4.

One may work for every PC/OS, I haven't tried that yet but will in the future just to see.

I got the batch working ok , not as advanced as the handmade. but it does the job:




It looks for winre.wim copies it and renames to boot%arch%.wim

You can save it the trouble by copying winre.wim into the same place and renaming it first.

Well, I got your PE disk made. Got your menu, was able to get into Aomei but got this error

4140″ error and complaining that “the backup driver works improperly”.

Then, I tried Macrium just for fun and the screen resolution issue is still a problem. This is a 23" Acer all in one computer that runs natively at 1920x1080. I'm sure this is more of the issue than anything else.

Still sucks though, lost the entire work day to this exercise.

Got a good idea what the Aomei error is . Should be fixable.

Not sure about the macrium.

I don't have any trouble resizing the windows.

I'm trying your edits

I can resize the main Macrium window. But when I go into the Image disk window, that one I cannot resize and I cannot see the entire thing.

I will boot it up and have a look.

I've rebuilt the PE, and I'm booting it now. wish me luck. Perhaps I will capture a quick video and post it showing what is happening with my non resizable windows. It's very frustrating. Damn Acer all in ones.

It will backup 3 of my 4 partitions, just not the C drive. So, I'm pretty sure the required executables and everything are there.

That's odd.

See what you mean about macrium. I can resize it larger - but there is a minmum - proabably to do with the way it scales the partitions in the window.

It's not causing a prob with my screen tho.

I can make it smaller by starting macrium - then setting a higher resolution.
