BlackBerry Z10 Smartphone - BlackBerry 10 Touch Phone - US

I'm underwhelmed for what I've looked around. Seriously, this strikes me as a better iphone than anything really great. It's like if android ICS meet ios and was designed by Microsoft's metro design..... Yeah. As a Windows Phone user, I see little that really excites me. The keyboard on it is basically like the one on Windows Phone 8, except there are more word suggestions on top of the touch keyboard. Voice control looks bland, like iphone from the year 2008-2009. Hold a mute button to do a voice command? Ummm, ok?

Overall, I doubt the Z10 will really save Blackberry worth diddly squat. The UI just looks like a skinned version of android, built on an iphone cloned handset, with a feature set that doesn't distinguish itself from the competition. I see a buyout by Lenovo or someone else here soon....

You won't like it because it is not win phone.

A buyout is possible. They could get a good price, now they have a good product to offer.

Coincidentally, a friend told me today he would be swapping his iphone for the Blackberry.

I don't know anyone who is swapping win phone for one, though - mainly because I don't know anyone who has a win phone.

I know one guy who used to have win 7 phone - he has a samsung now.

Not just that, there really isn't anything there that distinguishes itself out from android, ios, or Windows Phone. It's just another app-centric, slightly revised design that's already out there. There's nothing better than what is already on android, nothing better than ios, nothing better than Windows Phone. If anything, it's just at a median level of "just enough" to call itself a smartphone. If it were the year 2007 or 2008 and this came out, then yeah, it would be rather amazing. The Z10 is playing SERIOUS catch up here, it's not even out and I can tell it will be out the gate already limping. No main stream app support, not a lot of demand, not many developers are looking to develop on it, it's like Windows Phone 7; it took a while until 8 came out to support better hardware and build itself into an ecosystem. There isn't a good music or video store on Blackberry either, and I bet it would be like when ios 2 came out with the app store, you're going to have to be using the browser as much as you use the apps to get access to certain services online as there isn't a mobile app version available.

Let alone the fact that the camera on it really isn't that good, it's like dead last compared the Nokia Lumia 920, iphone 5, galaxy S3, and HTC One X...

I like it. It stays true to Blackberry's roots. If you're comparing it to app centric devices, then yes, it's barely comparable. But it's not exactly an app centric device. if anything it's message centric, with that hub that's always a quick swipe away.

I believe Apple and Samsung have the flashy&gimmicky market beat, so Blackberry really has no choice but to stay true to their roots as a messaging device. And I believe they succeeded. If you play with it and expect it to be an iPhone or Samsung, you will be disappointed. But if you take to time to see what Blackberry is trying to be, then you may realize what an awesome phone you have in your hands.

I find that Windows Phone is better as a messaging device, better a social media device, and better as a get information at a glance device. By doing so, it really lives up to its creed of putting people first as you're not screwing around on your phone so much anymore and can actually have proper conversations with physical people.

Thank you thank you, thank you! As a BB user, I feel like everyone disregards BB because it's not focused on apps/games like iOS and Android. My phone does what I need it do as a messaging and Internet browsing phone, and I'm happy with it.

It's not so much making messages more prominent then organizing them better.

take iphone or android. You can practically DROWN in updates from a single app and not be able to find important stuff.
On Windows Phone, it gives you the number of notifications but no details. you have to open each individual app to see what's going on.

On BB10, all notifications are in the hub you get an unread count in the homescreen (as opposed to iPhones method of interruping what you're doing), and you can quickly sort notifications by app or account. And because of this method, notifications can be "persistent" in which you can just scroll down to see older notifications/messages.

It's not something you'll see fidding with a display unit for a minute, but it's very noticeable when you're using it on a daily basis.

Says the Windows/Windows Phone (I generally care less about version other than vista) fanboy that has used ios/iphone, a couple of recent android versions in depth, Windows Phone 7/8 and logically extrapolating the information of what Blackberry is showing of their product; I see nothing extraordinary that isn't already in android or ios and especially not in Windows Phone. It's just a standard UI with BBM, more like a skinned android version with BBM. Yeah, you can argue about it's Blackberry at its core and roots, but will anyone care enough at this point? Only the real Crackberry users that are slaved a to employer co-funded 401K and/or a salary that had to unfortunately switch to a different platform for whatever reason would really care about this. Mostly every other person? Not so much. You can't market an enterprise rooted and seeded and grown device to a consumer crowd without even trying to put in some consumer oriented features, such as a multimedia market place or good quality apps.

And thus lies the problem I see with Blackberry, they think just because they have a good quality phone that is somewhat up to modern day par that it will do well; regardless of the fact that developer interest for it is much lower than Windows Phone, app amounts aren't close to being acceptable, as well as the fact that there is less consumer interest in a Blackberry than a Windows Phone. It's literally just like if Windows Phone 7 launched this month or next, as it did a good two years ago: very little third party apps, not a large multimedia marketplace, not yet feature rich. It took Windows Phone 8 to propel it off 7's momentum, which is seen by the fact that in three months, 8 is already more than 50% of Windows Phone total marketshare. Several companies from India, the US, to England have already announced Windows Phone adoption and the ONE common thread here is them citing that they're already a Microsoft driven enterprise, so a Windows Phone is the last piece to the puzzle. If they were a google driven one, maybe android. iphone if they have questionable accountants and IT staff. :p

Honestly, I'd rather see a buyout of Blackberry by an OEM that will use Windows Phone on it along with Blackberry's exclusive features. How I see it literally, the UI design of Windows Phone lends itself out better on the go than Blackberry, you literally take a couple of glances to see relevant information and you're done. You could even use just the lockscreen to see if you have any missed types of communication.

But those are just the cold hard facts, if you ask an iphone/android/Windows Phone user if they would switch to a Blackberry, you'd be disappointed. Again, mainly Crackberry users would, or long time Blackberry fans. Most people I'd bet would be surprised Blackberry is still around, let alone releasing a new handset. There simple isn't enough stock within it to sell it. Verizon might have some fun with it, but some insider said that Verizon is selling Windows Phone hard because they're less expensive for them to carry and that's the platform they're selling to users that mainly do some web browsing and email and don't care too much about apps. But we'll have to see that one though. As a Windows Phone user, nothing really interests me with the Blackberry, there isn't a feature that really stands out to me that it's a must-have. And again, this is coming from someone who believes the iphone is boring, drab, superfluous and awful; and android being something it's not.

Then again, I'm not sitting around plotting revenge on a company because they "did you wrong."

On Windows Phone, no you don't. If there is a tile count, generally that's just a poorly done app to begin with. Facebook app for example, is an app I don't have installed as the OS takes care of that REAL well. Mail app, if in a double wide tile, shows a good amount of detail as well as detail on the lock screen if you choose. Or Newegg, I can see daily deals on the tile. Or Cocktail Flow, what the daily drink is. Or Translator, what the word of the day is. Or Weather, I literally never open that app as I can see the current forecast, tile flips over to show the three day forecast, that is if the tile is double wide. Or MyStocks, I never open that app either as the live tile shows all my stock information and what they're trading at. Or Calendar, I can see if it's someone's birthday or whatever random holiday it is or if I have a calendar item that day or day before. Really, the only app category I see that simply has a tile count are news reader apps and texting apps.
