Five reasons windows 8 has succeeded

More a list of killer features that are a big improvement over windows 7. I loved windows 7 and hats the idea of win8 and struggled with it to begin with but it's better in many ways..

1. Super fast boot. My PC starts up in about 12 seconds and the sleep mode is instant to resume. Very handy!

2. IMPROVEMENT TO FILE TRANSFER! Sorry it's in caps but its about bloody time! I have often been transferring large files and then needed to quickly move a smaller file to a USB. I love you can now pause and resume as you need.

3. Metro apps. People might disagree but I like the location services and smart tiles. Especially with a dual screen setup

4. Better driver support. I didn't need to install any hardware drivers at all for my custom built PC. Compare that to Win7 fatally crashing because I installed graphics drivers before a windows update..

5. It's faster and less resource hungry, it makes a difference even to powerful pc's

I think this is a myth, my new Inspiron does boot to DT fast but it's still loading drivers/devices etc.. So you still have to wait for it to completely boot before you can start working on something.

4. Better driver support. I didn't need to install any hardware drivers at all for my custom built PC. Compare that to Win7 fatally crashing because I installed graphics drivers before a windows update..

I don't know about driver support my SanDisk Clip zip can't be seen on W8 via USB, I can't pair my Windows phone 8 to W8 via bluetooth. There is one thing W8 does very well and that's video playback with HD content, better codecs built into this OS imo.

5. It's faster and less resource hungry, it makes a difference even to powerful pc's[/QUOTE]

I totally agree with you on this one, and each day using W8 without ever seen Metro is just a plus on a non touch screen PC.

Couple of other "features" I like are:

  • A unified experience across all of its major consumer platforms.
  • Enhanced search function, just type anything on the start screen and a search box will appear and give you the results across all apps, programs, email, and files.
  • Improved security according to all I've read.

It's no myth, I'm up and running almost instantly!

Yeah the search is a great feature, takes the need for a start menu away (almost)

Welcome to Windows EightForums, Preacher. It's good to have you aboard. :)

I commend you for this positive thread! I noticed you just joined and started this in rebuttal of your first post on that "negative thread". :thumb: I would've repped you, but there's none of that in the Chillout Room. :(

I agree with all points here thus far, but initially I enjoyed the refreshing look of the Modern UI. :)

I like Windows 8 Pro.(It only cost me $40)

After tweaking it a bit to get the Start button back & changing a few other things like updating 12 drivers & changing "Trusted Installer" to run Automatically, everything runs good.
:)

No blue screens or error messages of any kind since updating drivers.

I seldom use the Metro screen.
Desktop mostly.
Over all it is pretty good.(My opinion)

No myth with Hybrid Boot, usually takes around 12-15 seconds on most PCs from the vista years. Boots up and already to go.
