Five reasons why Windows 8 has failed

I predicted that Windows 8 would be dead on arrival last year, but it's flopping even more than I thought it would be. So, why has Windows 8 been such a failure?

A big disappointment for MS fore sure, but Windows 8 has hardly failed. That type of hyperbole just discredits the writer and makes one wonder about his ability to dispassionately view the issue -- and therefore this reader would never trust his analysis/opinions.

You think it is a success then?

Relative to not just 7 but also to Vista it has done badly. That is in spite of an enormous advertising spend, the lower prices for the o/s and continuing slashing prices of the oem devices. I don't know what else you expected him to call it

You guys do know all that person writes about it talking about the failure of things right? Sometimes he writes positive reviews but they are rare. I think we should change the name of this forum to windowsh8teforums.com, I have been on here for the last three days and all anyone does is complain which is amazing since this forum is dedicated to windows 8. Go buy a Mac or install Linux if your that un happy with it. After what I read about Windows Blue I would assume the MS has no intention of dropping Metro which means it is here to stay. So I would just get use to it. I am not a Windows fan boy being that my primary desktop has been Ubuntu since 2008 but recently decided to give Windows another shot and honestly find Metro not so bad, great I would say no but I understand MS point which is to cater more to the consumer.

They don't seem to buying it in large numbers, so if MS is trying to cater to the consumer they are making a mess of it.

I put it to you that is the exact opposite of what MS is doing.

They still have time - if they make a serious effort to cater to the consumer as you put it - they may be able to recover the situation.

This Blue upgrade /whatever it is - may help - if they cater to the consumer.

I hope they do get it right.

I am just saying this doesn't really feel like a Windows 8 forum to me, Windows Blue is just adding more features to Metro and doing some more work under the hood from what I have read so I doubt it will make much difference if that is what holds people back which I am sure it is more of the fact it was to much change at one time. If you don't like it just remember no one makes you use it because there is still Windows 7, Apple or Linux unless you like Windows 8 and are just on the band wagon of complaining.

This is forum - it is for discusiing. Pretty boring if everyone was drooling over the litlle squares.

The reason people are - in your words "complaining" - is because there is plenty not to like about what MS is doing and where they are trying to lead the users.

It is also selling badly - so they clearly have not got it right.

Let me ask you a question. How happy were you when they switched Ubuntu to Unity ??

eh I remember running 11.04 which was not the most pleasant experience but in ways a little different I guess since I understood that I was using a six month release cycle instead of the LTS. By the time 12.04 came out Unity was bullet proof IMO and to this day I find it one of the best tops for my use. As many people thought with the loss of user to Ubuntu during 11.04 and 11.10 they would abandoned Unity but with time of polishing and the fact as far as compatibility Ubuntu being the best many have returned and I believe a similar thing will happen with Windows, that is why I say the complaints are pointless and unheard.

I think the complaints will be heard when M$ sees their business dwindle. They are making a similar faux pas with Office which is their milk cow - but here it is with the Ts&Cs.

In Ubuntu it is different. There is not a lot of business attached to it - maybe now when they go mobile. I went to Mint Mate Nadia and like that UI better than the Unity. And my special pet is Zorin.
